0-60 times around 10 seconds? edit-with videos now...

Post by danman132x » Thu Jul 05, 2007 12:07 pm

Is this about right for an 03 R/T? I've hit 8 seconds once, but that was on my old tires which were 195/50/16 and now I have 205/50/16 tires. I've taken about 6 videos and all of them I hit 60 MPH at ~10 seconds. This seems really slow for an r/t :( Next tune up in 3K miles, I'm doing seafoam, spark plugs, air filter, new atf+4, and oil change to see if it helps any.

I thought the 2.0 magnum is supposed to be approximately 8.5 seconds and non magnum is around 10 seconds.

Am I off with my facts?

yeah, the regular neon is around 8.5-8.8, while the rt/acr's I believe are a few tenths faster. You thought 15 extra HP/TQ was gonna get an extra 1.5 seconds to 60!? not a chance! :)

I did a little research. You are right OB.

Base model neon non-magnum engine 0-60 time is 8.6 according to Cons Guide. with the "optional engine" meaning the Magnum engine at 7.9 seconds according to "grassroots".

2003 Neon R/T 0-60 time is 7.8 seconds according to modernracer.com

Used to average Mid to Low 7's with my R/T.

I remember when a Friend of mine didn't believe me when I said the car will do 0-60 in 7flat. On my way to meet up with him one night I decided to do a 0-60 run. Drove to Denny's with my GTECH Flashing "0-60 in 7.05sec"

His face was priceless.

I'm in the 0-60 in the 5.1range now. Not bad for a SCCA Member and avid AutoX/Road Race fan. And I believe my GTECH finally wet the bed.

I don't know what could be wrong. Here are two videos

In this video, I have a pretty good launch, but the road is slightly uphill like a 5 degree angle. Might make a differece.

In this video, I have a bad launch, but the road is straight. Tell me if it pulls decent.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tMgG0PA2v4A

And here is a video from last november when the car was fast :(
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xyx9S6Fkzhc

Like I said in the first post, I'm buying a new air filter, spark plugs, doing a seafoam treatment, new atf+4 in the tranny, and PenzPlat with a purolator filter in 3000 miles to see if it helps. I'm also doing a compression check soon. Any tips on how to do those?

I think you are launching too high in the rev band. Instead of 3000rpm lower it to like 1800 to 2000. Slip the clutch letting the tires keep up with the accelerating motor.

I never launch above 2000rpms. I was consistently in the mid to low 7s with my R/T.

My R/T didnt have alot of power adders, Just an Intake, Exhaust, UDP. It was mostly suspension Modifications. STS, Boogers, Energy Bushings, Motor and Tranny Mount Inserts, Larger Sways, Front and Rear Strut Braces etc. Weight Redux when I had a problem with the rear taillights leaking.

Lower the RPMs and See what Happens. The Wheel hop from 3000rpms is killing you.

Only video i can find and its a rolling start. Like 10-75mph.

Nice vid MoxHair. In your video, it seems to be pulling the same like mine, so I'm just going to have to do my big tune up. I'm 2800 miles away from 50,000 now. Anything else I should be checking at that milage?

I missed the Shift into second.. so yea. lol Lower the RPMs limit the Wheel Hop and you'll be fine. Get a Tranny mount insert that will help alot. If I can do 7flat I'm sure you can too. I'm a Road Racer not a Drag Racer.

Yeah, my 1/4 time in my sig had some massive wheel hop... I lauch way to high, but the car bogs really bad below 3k, so I guess maybe next track run I will do the 2k rpm lauch... if you are running 0-60mph in about 7-7.5sec, my time is more like 8.5 :( I suck at racing

Nice vids. :D

you have the slip the clutch and not dump it. Its sort of like Rev Matching. Your letting the engine rev up slower which allows the wheels to get traction and not hop across the ground, also keeps the car from bogging because you're just right on the limit.. Takes some practice.

I don't have a 5 speed, but isnt that just for an ATX, hence ATF=Automatic Transmission Fluid. Won't you need MTX fluid or is there no difference. I was under the impression there was. :book: :dontknow:

^^^^^ Seeing that you have a 02, and i would assume that it is the same transmission as mine, what MTF fluid would you get?
