My OPEL got new wheels from an ASTRA SRi

Post by GTS » Thu Jul 12, 2007 11:03 pm

I just got this set of wheels, They came from Germany on an Opel Astra SRi 2.0 Turbo DI... They are OEM wheels with the exact same pattern offset and hub diameter as the Catera wheels the only difference being the extra in in diameter.

The Astra with SPORT wheels 17s... pretty nice ehhh!?

The Wheel itself:
5spoke Alum
5x110 Bolt pattern.
65.1mm Hubcentric opening
18x7.5J
37mm Offset
Tires are Dunlop Sport SP01 DSST...RUN FLATS.

The wheels installed on my Catera:
I know the tires are a little too small and it acutally looks kinda funny and in fact the wheels look pretty damn small on there but o well... I guess new tires are on the way for the next summer... i got to try to wear these suckers down before I get new ones.

To be honest something doesnt look right the way it sits I gues the tires are too skinny so... maybe I should take em off and put on the old sport rims with my 245/45 17s on there what do you guys think? Either that or I go shopping for a 245 40 18 tire...

 whats up with you getting all these rare wheels!? They look bad ass on your car. Do you just look up random offsets and sizes and see what other companies make their stock ones in or something like that?

Well to be truly honest its just a luck thing, every now and then i hop on craigs list or ebay or even the sales forums here and other places and sometimes I find rare things that are dirt cheap and usually very nice...

I got these from a guy on Craigs list, he was the team leader at GM that modified the Astra, whcih was shipped to the states brand new, those guys did a base line test on a track and then removed wheels brakes and suspension and modified it with some 19s, bigger brakes stiffer springs etc... and then the car was shipped back to Germany for more testing but it never came back so all the parts they took off of it, they practically threw out so the guy sold them to me for the rediculous price of 160$...not bad ehhh... considering those are rare and expensive wheels the tires alone are 270$/pc because they are run flats...

Funny thing is I put em on and the car looked compleetly normal, went to check the tire pressure and o man all tires were between 5-10psi which is nothing but they lookd as if they had air in em... so I am very happy with them... 2 are a little worn out due to the FWD set up on the Astra but the other two are brand new... the car had 1000mi when it got shipped to Germany.

As to the offset when I found the wheels I looked them up and it just so happened since its an Opel that they fit and have the same dimensions as the ones on my car so I just jumped on the offer. I will have to get bigger tires because the ones on there are 225 40 18 and I want some 245 40 18s...

Well I am looking at a possible KW full coil over set up with high and stiffness adjustability but thats only 1300$ shipping not included from Germany...
She doesnt sit too bad but she needs bigger tires and some ground clearance package...

This is what she is gonna look like soon...

Those wheels look great!! And is that a lip kit / "body styling package" or is that a kit that replaces the factory bumper covers? Either way, it's going to look awesome with that kit and it would look even better if you get those coilovers you mentioned!

I got to get some more good pictures all the ones I have are from my phone...

The body kit is Urethane just like the OEM bumpers and its a perfect fit from Steinmetz Tuning over in germany and they have all sorts of parts including the KW coil over kit and possibly the exhaust system for it so at this time I am looking for that bumper, and sometime in the next few months its gona turn into the one I showed you guys... only the wheels are probably going to remain the same.

Awesome car, definitely lower it.

I saw a Catera with full Opel conversion lowered on 18"s on I-71 in Columbus Ohio maybe 2 years ago and it was SICK.

Well here are just some pictures that I took yesterday... Nothing special.

The car will have a new set of rear spacers by the end of the month that would increase the rear track by almost 2" so we will have to see how the rear bearings are gonna handle all the extra stress.
