new tires here we come!!!

Post by ragek23 » Mon Jul 16, 2007 1:14 am

well my birthday was last Friday and all my relatives gave me money towards my much needed new tires. I am not quite sure which tires i will get tho so far. I've narrowed it down to a few choices after hours of starring at the specs.

BF Goodrich g-Force
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/215-40-1 ... 1383QQrdZ1

Falken Azenis
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/215-40-1 ... 5347QQrdZ1

Yokohama avs ES100
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/4-215-40 ... 5787QQrdZ1

Hankook Ventus
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/4-215-40 ... 5744QQrdZ1

the only tire I did find but intrigues me is the walni. I am conserned it may not fit my 7" wide rim. I am also conserded about this being a decend autox/track/DD tire. Which is what i am trying to find.
The reason I am looking at this tire is because it is a 225 40 R17 and its $80 a tire. If anybody has heard good things about the walni tire i'll get it but otherwise I am pressed between the tires above.

I have had no experience using either tire, however, I have heard good things about the G-Force. Can't go wrong with the Azenis either.

Have you considered Kumho Ecsta SPT's? I went from G force sports to these and although the BFG's were ok, I like these better. Also the link you gave to the E bay auctions for the G Force sports shows shipping as $79.95. You might want to try Tire rack.com, if the e bay shipping price is correct, then the tires + shipping are $458.59. Tire Rack is $432.94 for the same tire shipped UPS.

These are the Kumho's

I have the Azenis right now that I use for autocross and I love them, plenty of grip, nice stiff sidewall. And when i have used them in the rain I had no problems with them. Still gripped pretty well actually. I am thinking about going with the Hankooks when I wear these out, I know some people running them and they do pretty well with them.

Hi. :)

Running Z212 'Kooks on my Silverstones. Used as an autocross/DD tire.

I had no problems accelerating away from lights moderatly during a rainstorm, and once warm they stick like a mofo.

They aren't rated for a huge life, but I've seen people get 25-30k miles before they are completely worn out, of course, depends on your driving...

thanks for the input guys. Canada, I didn't know u autocrossed?
After weighing my options I found that a local tire dealer is about the same as tirerack until tax is added in. so I am gonna order with them.

I am now pressed between the azenis and the BFG KDW2's. The BFGs look much cooler and have much better stats all around. Unfortunately they are $$50more per tire. I am tempted to get 2 of each.

My vote is for the azenis.

Edgeracing.com is a good place to get them from for pretty cheap depending on the size you need.
I don't know if they may the azenis in a 225/40/R17 though.

only two companies make 224 40 R17s Nitto (very expensive!!) and Walni ( :pottytrain3: china made).

well since i couldn't decide i ordered 2 azenis and 2 BFG kdws. I also couldn't afford 4 kdws as they would be 700+ for full a set. But for about $600 I am out the door mounted and balanced form a local tire dealer.

quick note: do not order tires from sears! they charge over $25 per tire for mounting and balancing!

Got them on and I love the KDW2s!!!! unfortunately they may be too sticky. I've been kicking up stones on the road. One actually came off the tire hit my side mirror and pegged me in the face!! Other than that they are sooo good at handling. I cannot wait to get them on the track!!!. I also can't spin into second anymore. Pics will be up tomorrow

Just an update for future buyers, I have KDW2s in the front and Azenis in the rear. all four tires are 215/40/17

they handle exceptionally. They are awesome for autox and DD. So far in the worst downpours i haven't had a hint of hydroplaning with them. They also arn't too bad for autox either.

I have th Azenis in the rear cuz they don't cut through water as well. Also they are dangerous if you hit sand. My friend crashed his autox/ track car when he had all 4 azenis on and hit a patch of sand.
But other than that they are amazing tires. Especially for the price.
