Just make sure it is not hot when you do it. You can use any auto engine degreaser and spray it on, leave on for the allot time and use low pressure when you clean it off. Its high pressure you want to stay away from. The engine compartment can get wet but when you use high pressure then it will get into place where it shouldn't be. I clean off my engine when I clean my car and I use a normal hose with low pressure. Haven't run into problems yet..

I clean mine thoroghly before every show (6-8 times a year). The only problem that I have ever run into was getting water on my alarm speaker. It's nothing serious, it just makes the chirp higher pitched for a few days until it dries on the inside of the speaker.

I learned something from another post- clean the major gunk off, then spray eagle 1 tire wet (spray bottle not aeresol) on everything, let dry, then run your engine for 15min or so. Everything will look BRAND NEW :D

I use a Citrous based degreaser, ive had bad experiences with keroscene based degreaser. At work, after I spray everything with WellWorth Citrous degreaser(called oilguzzler) I use VERY hot water to rinse everything off. Then I grab the air hose to dry as much as possible, then I spray the whole engine compartment with a NON-silicone based tire shine. I start the car after that(with hood closed) let it run until upto operating temperature. Once there I shut the car off and take a rack to wipe the compartment dont to get the built up residue off. looks l;ike new when done.

A buddy of mine does this all the time, but he also uses aerosol! :) He did it to my Thunderbird the first time I took it to a local car show we went to. He popped his hood to show off and I was like, "Uhhh, dude... Mine ain't that much to show off." And he's like, "It's the 4.6L V8 right?" And I said yes. He told me to pop my hood, so I did. He sprayed the hell out of everything under my hood and man, did it look awesome. Stayed looking brand new for about 4 months, too! It was some cheap tire shine crap he got for about $2 a can.

He just sprayed it down without cleaning anything off of it first?

If you don't clean off the large buildup of crud, it'll still be shiny, but the crud will still be there.

i was told to start it up right after you start rincing the degreaser off, and then let it run for 15minutes or so to burn the water off, just to avoid the battery and the fuse box

why start it? it makes no sense to me.

So what tire cleaner do you use?
Foam or spray?
Brand?
Just spray it or wipe it on?
What parts do you not use it on?

Thanks
