Howdy all,
I just got into the Guard a few weeks ago and I figured i'd see if anyone would be interested in joining. I just found out about some sweet programs that they offer. I enlisted for the O.C.S. enlistment option which is basically a contract for me to become an Officer. I will have to attend a year or so of monthly drills and two, two week drills and then i'll be commissioned as a Second Lieutenant.
This option requires you to have at least 60 credits and get a certain score on the ASVAB test. Unfortunately there isn't really a bonus for this, but the Guard does offer ones that have really good bonuses. Oh, and most importantly, until you actually get commissioned and attend your job school you are non-deployable.
The Guard also offers the College First option, which keeps you non-deployable for your first two years, AND gives you a ton of money and college assistance. Florida already pays 100% tuition for school and you'll get around $350 for the GI Bill and about another $200 kicker payment. You figure around $150 for your actual drill pay and you'll be making about $700 a month just to go to school.
MOST IMPORTANTLY the Guard has about 50 jobs available now with $20,000 bonuses! I just drove a guy up to process yesterday and he is going to be getting 20k to be a medic..must be nice!
If anyone is interested, please send me a PM and i'll hook you up with my recruiter!

Hmm, sounds like the Army is laxing on thier reqs..........I'm 150% positive when I was in the Air Force, you must have a Bachelors degree, and attend OCS for four years to become an officer......thats, four years straight, not weekends, LOL.

Attend OCS for four years in the AF? I don't think so..
And this is the National Guard, not the active duty Air Force.

All depends on your status. If you are prior service you can try the Guard for a year, you could do three, six, it's up to you. I signed up for three since i'm prior service. My wife signed up for six.

so they're going to pay you for school for 2 years on the off chance your unit deploys in your remaining year? they sound desperate.LCPLPunk wrote:All depends on your status. They pay for school anyways, I got my four year degree 100% paid for by the Army and I have NO student debt.
