SRT4 Brake Caliper Rebuild / Help/ Tips/

Post by 2001DodgeNeonSe » Sat Jul 28, 2007 2:46 pm

I got a 2001 dodge neon with everything swapped from a wrecked 2003 srt, everything motor, wiring, interior, gas tank etc.. The only thing that wasnt switched over was the front brakes cause they wouldnt fit with stock 14" tires. I finally put my tokico struts and front brakes on. Problem, the front brakes ( rotor) spins 80% the catches 20% ( where it willnt spin). The front brakes have been sitting in the wrecked car since 2003. So someone told me that the inside of my caliber is probaly corrored hence cause the piston to stick. I went to Napa because they sell rebuilt calipers, but they couldnt get a rebuilt for a srt 4 cause of it rarity. So I ordered the seal and rebuild kit for the caliper / piston which only cost 20 dollars. I willnt get the kit till later today. I'm also gonna get by rotors turned to eliminate the possibilty that those are warped. So has anyone ever rebuilt the caliper and if so any tips would be good.

From what i know from hersey:

Loosen lug nuts
Compress brake pedal ( to prevent leaking from brake lines)
Raise car ( put on jackstands)
Take tire off
Take Banjo bolt
Take 2 guide pin bolts off
Take caliper assembly off
Use air compresor to blow threw banjo bolt hole to get caliper out
Hone the inside of the caliper lightly with sandpaper or hone tool
Clean everything with brake fluid
Install new seal and rebuild kit ( not sure whats in it but seals)
Push caliper back in
Then assembly everything and bleed brakes.

Is that about it or is there other stuff I should do. Or does it sound like i might have another problem. I'm gonna rebuild since i ordered the parts, cant hurt anything. Anyways thanks in advance.
