keep the radio on when key is off

Post by Smoke » Sat May 21, 2005 10:12 am

I want to be able to keep the radio on when the key is off or at least long enough to keep my CD playing when I go from "ON" to "ACC" positons. I know this can be done but I am unable to find a good tutorial on it anywhere.

disconnect your hot wire and tap into the memory wire, or get a newer head unit that stays on until you open your door...i think its an 04 model unit that does that...

the head unit has nothing to do with it (I have an 04) the head unit revcieves a signal from the ignition via a seperate wire that the car is on. the cars that stay on untill you open the doors have a switch in the door trigger somehow. that is what i can't figure out.

What you are looking for is called "Retained Accessory Power", trying to do some quick research on it right now.

I've found that before and i think i'm going to try it. Does anyone know where to find the door trigger wire? I believe the "switch" is in the door latch but i don't know if the wire is in the door or what?

Ahhhhh... My '98 S-10 I previously owned had this. The first time I drove it, when I turned off the key, I was like: "What the f*ck?! The radio won't turn off." As I was getting out to go call the salesman at the dealership... Ah-ha! :D

Jeeps use retained accessory power and a couple of the FWD platforms do also. Neons never got the feature. The body controller is in charge of this feature. It keeps the radio, sunroof, and power windows active for 30-45seconds after the key is turned off or the driver's door os opened, whichever occurs first.

One of your electronics buds could design you a mini relay to power the stereo when the key is on with a capacitor circuit in the relay control circuit to keep the relay active for a short time after the key is turned off.

I've found a couple of diagrams for neons to tell me where the door trigger wire is, but they all seem to contradict one another. Does anyone know where the door trigger wire is on an '04?
