so i was trying to remove the tranny from my old motor tonight and can't seem to get it to come loose from the motor. there doesn't appear to be anything in the fsm saying that it should stick. i can pull the two apart about 1" then it hangs like the tb and clutch fork won't release. am i missing something? this is my first fwd tranny so do i need to unbolt the bell housing from the tranny then the bellhousing from the motor? or, should it all come out as one unit? thanks fellas.

you just unbolt the bell from the block, don't forget the wiring and the tranny mount bolt, make sure it can clear the fender wall, i.e jack car way up lower engine way down, if it's still stuck use a long steel bar to pry it off.

My tranny was dificult to remove as well.
I think the trick is to support the engine/tranny in such a way that you can pull perfectly straight on the tranny. It should just slide right out. The input shaft likes to bind up in the clutch if you don't slide it out perfectly straight though.
It might take a bit of wiggling to stimulated it enough to get it to slide out too.

Yep. There are 4 bolts holding the bell housing to the block. Once those are out, it should slide right off.
It would probably be a good idea to remove the slave cylinder, just so it doesn't get it the way. The starter motor and lower dust cover need to come off as well...

it was the dust cover that was holding things up. i couldn't see it as the tranny/engine was sitting on the garage floor. everything is separated now. it's time for an lsd!!! woot.turbodudey wrote: The starter motor and lower dust cover need to come off as well...
