skim problem?

Post by bigjosh » Mon Aug 13, 2007 7:27 pm

My car was in the shop for the last week getting some work done to it and the shop called me today telling me it was done, but the car will not start.

I searched and read some threads about the skim and think that this is what my problem could be. The battery was disconnected for a few days and now when it's hooked up the car is not turning over.

I read about leaving the key in the ON position and connecting a battery charger to it and waiting for an hour. The shop is doing this now. I hope it works, but won't know for another hour.

Does anybody know if there is anything else that could possibly fix this?

now i may just be going on a limb with this one but could it be that the shop is a lil slow and the battery could be dead? Hell the battery could be completely shot.

The battery is fine....I have to take it to the dealer because the owner of the shop said that the car is getting fuel and everything else, but no spark.

It's also throwing three codes P0340, P1335, and something else. Oh well, hopefully it's done by tomorrow. The key in the ignition for an hour with the battery charger didn't work. I was hoping someone would know what to do without me having to go to the dealer.

The battery was disconnected for 3 days. The car was getting a mag head swap w/ Comp 400, installing my prothane mounts, and everything else that's involved with doing the swap.

The mechanic did a pressure test, double-checked the timing, ran diagnostics on it when it wouldn't start. He showed me a diagram of what's not working right. For some reason the ASD relay (auto shutdown) is not allowing the pcm (or something like that) to fire the injectors or get spark.

He looked up the codes on his computer and the software tells him that the pcm needs to be reflashed, using the DRBIII. It has the whole procedure laid out. I know he called the dealership to ask them what's up with the car and they told him the pcm needs to be reflashed.

i dont see from the work that has been done could be the cause of the computer, but i guess its worth a try. ASD you say? try checking behind the block to see if the little magnet looking thingy with the wire coming from it is attached. Also see if the ASD fuse or relay(i think) is any good. Keep us posted. :)

I guess the pcm or skim times out after a while with no power? I hope it's all done tomorrow. He said he would help me out by getting it to the dealer to get reflashed. BTW the owner of the shop is my supervisor's friend, so he said he'll take care of me....I hope. I give an update tomorrow.

I doubt that it's a timeout, my car was in the junkyard for a few months without a battery and it started right up.

Well the car did not start today. I had to get it towed to the dealer. This is what the mechanic was talking about, direct from the fsm,
"The Auto Shutdown (ASD) and fuel pump relays are located in the Power Distribution Center (PDC).

The camshaft position sensor and crankshaft position sensor signals are sent to the PCM. If the PCM does not receive the signal within approximately 1 second of engine cranking, it deactivates the ASD relay and fuel pump relay. When these relays are deactivated, power is shut off from the fuel injectors, ignition coils, oxygen sensor heating elements and fuel pump."
Hopefully it's taken care of by tomorrow....I know I keep saying tomorrow, hopefully this will be the last time.
