windows defender, is the really good even though MS bought up the company and now is selling and supporting the software. You should be able to get from microsoft's website if your windows install is legit.

if ur willing to pay money then i'd get Kaspersky antivirus, it's russian based antivirus software that is BAD ASS! it's does everything for you, updates by itself, checks for viruses and the whole deal. they give you 30 day trial if you want to try it out....... www.kaspersky.com

THE Best in 2006 btw.

i use a combo of stuff ... Norton on computers that are of importance at work .. and have net access ...

avg on the normal workstations that do not have net access ...

i also use ad-aware.... etc for a typical clean-up when one of the idio... err workers .. under me brings a computer in from their home because it 'runs slow'

do a control-alt-delete and when the task manger opens open google and input each process til you find the offending one. Once you find it go to start-run-msconfig and see if you can disable it from starting up when windows starts. If not reboot in Safe mode and delete the offending file, then got to start-run-regedit, back up the registry anywhere. Now do a search non the offending file you deleted and delete each registry key that has that exact .exe or .dll for that file. Reboot and that should take care of it.

Its a better idea to Log into Safe mode

Run>Regedit

HKEYLOCALMACHINE>Software>Microsoft>Windows>CurrentVersion>Run

There you will find what really starts up every time your computer kicks on, might make it easier to delete it rather then just disabling it in MSConfig.

Also run Hijack this...

I have a stark feeling he wouldn't be asking for an antivirus app if he knew how to properly use the taskmanager, regedit and/or hijackthis.

I would go ahead and use windows defender first
http://www.microsoft.com/athome/securit ... fault.mspx

afterwards you can download a lite version of mcafee viruscan and firewall for free. You just need to have an aol email (you can register one for free).

Well, I ran my sysmantech, and deleted the virus. It just took alot of shit with it, my desktop is fouled up, and I can't run IEexplore, or my computer.

I'm gonna give up doing it myself, and give it to my fiance's brother, he owes us a favor, and he works for geeksquad.

Avast is ok, NOD32 found stuff that Avast missed though and run it on all my PC's at home. Was thinking about swapping the 120 desktops and 18servers at work to Nod32 at the end of the "license" year.

I'm going to try the demo and see how it is...
But one thing about Avast is its free and NOD32 is not.....thanks for the tip though...

An antivirus program isnt going to get rid of this problem, you need to run Hijackthis and check anything that looks suspicious and it will stop them from loading. Honestly I would recommend that you have someone that has expierence with this problem look at it, as its one of those things that you have to be at your computer to figure out what to fix.

I've been running www.kaspersky.com and I like it... Norton takes up to much space and resources.
