Post by deep1ca » Fri Aug 17, 2007 1:37 am

I'm about to send out $700 for a body kit to another user on these forums.

Whats is the safest payment method to avoid scam and stuff?

-Paypal ?
-Money order ?
-Cashiers Check ?
-Direct bank transfer ?

yeah there is no real protection, what you can do is send your money to someone that you know well in that state and have them pick it up for you and send it to you directlty. either way you gonna have to trust someone, you could also do a COD thru UPS.

It's from me, and I understand the concern beleive me. I'd be nervous too with that kind of cash changing hands.
I wasn't planning on using Paypal but if that seems to be the safest and easiest way to do it then I suppose I'll look into it since I will be posting most of my other parts here soon as well.

Just a question, why Paypal? I've never heard of it until I joined here. Is it a higher protection for the buyer or what is the advantage over other forms of payment?
My concern is having my bank info on a third party site who also may not be available if a dispute occurs whereas a check or money order in the mail to me holds me directly and legally liable. To me that would be safer...but then again I'm kind of old school like that.

That was kinda my point, wouldn't that be easier and safer for everyone all the way around rather than going through a third party?
I don't know any of you for Jack but if I were to buy something from any of you a check or money order can be traced and those who cashed it can be tracked by Federal officers if something goes sour. Thats not something I want on my ass know what I mean?!

PayPal is about the best. You have them to help get your money back and if they dont' come through you can file a claim with your CC company.

Checks... all you can do is put a stop payment on them.

Cash is by far the worst.

Money Orders they can pretty much cash and run. Cashiers Check they can sorta do the same thing since you can't put a stop payment on them either.

use a CC (not a debt card) to pay paypal ... ... paypal will only issue a refund if there is money in the person's account... but all that person has to say .. is they did ship the item ... and paypal won't budge on the refund ... big hassle ..

or the seller just has to withdraw the money from acct ... and then not respond at all .. paypal wont refund because there is no money in acct...

cc company (if you contact within a certain amount of days) ... will at least try to force a reversal on the payment ... but check with them first and see if they will cover a transaction made through paypal ....

western union money wire ... and do not release the code till you have verification that the item has shipped ...
