Manifold blues

Post by OverDrive418 » Fri Aug 17, 2007 12:46 pm

I bought this 97 Honda hatchback DX back in late May 07 as a backup car for the time being until I get out of school and into an SRT-4. From day one the engine light was on and it sounded like an old truck instead of a bumblebee fart like they should. The code was for a bad O2 sensor in the cat, no big deal. The noise I suspected was from an exhaust leak somewhere down the pipes, no big deal.
I've been driving it around for the last few months and it gets up and goes fine with no smoking so I figued it can't be anything serious.
Yesterday I got a new O2 sensor and when I took the heatsheild off to replace it...

 All I could do was say "DAYUM!" and laugh my ass off!
"I didn't know Honda made a 2-pc. manifold!"
Funny thing is that same morning I ordered a header and resonator for it before I saw this. I had a funny hunch but didn't expect THAT!

Oversteer is when you hit the wall with the back of the car. Understeer is when you hit the wall with the front of the car.
Horsepower is how fast you're going when you hit the wall, and torque is how far you drag the wall with you.

Good Lord! Have someone rev it up at night time and check it out, I'm sure that it's spitting flames out! I wouldn't change the o2 sensor now then lol. Get some header wrap or JB weld, and just fix it up!

Yeah I'm waiting until I get my new parts in before I install the new sensor, no sense in screwing that up for no reason. It has an Apex exhaust so I was considering a header anyway; this is a perfect excuse to get it over trying to repair the old iron hunk of crap.

Fireworks brought to you by Honda huh? Sounds fun, I might try it!

Yeah, when I installed the short tube header on my 95, there was a gap where the header bolted to the downpipe, and it spit flames at night, especially since it was running rich, and had a Mopar computer! Looked awesome!
