Post by neonsxt0486 » Wed May 25, 2005 2:25 pm

Has anyone heard of Coronado amps? My friends step dad just gave it to me and i've never heard of the brand before. It says 800 watts and it's a 2 channel. I have it hooked up to my hx2 at 4 ohms and it sounds awesome but i want to know what kind of quality im dealing with . Thanks for any help.

Are there any labels on the amplifier that may read the model number? I wonder if 800W is the real rating on the amplifier if that is the peak rating. Outside of really old equipment from the 40s and humbucker styled guitar pickups, I've never heard of Coronado audio anything.

Theres no labels at all it just says 800 watts. Theres a sticker on the back that says 800 rms 1600 peak. I doupt if its really pushing that but it sounds good. I looked all over the internet and couldn't find anything on these amps.

I know this one... it's the same board used in the Pyramid 800W amplifier. At least the external settings on the side look near identical for placement. I'm guessing this amp was purchased at one of those super discount car audio specialty shows. Most people I've talked to about this amp have never heard of them (serious enthusiasts, even more so than I am)... but now that I see the connectors and such, I have no doubt. The amp is actually 500W RMS rather than 800. Hope that helps.

Is there any way to check an amps wattage? What kind of tools would I need? Also do I HAVE to upgrade the alternator to stop the headlight dim? It's getting annoying and embarassing. What else could I do ?
