Its not a "RACE" in I'm going to beat you from here to there....
You have to follow the instructions givin to you and there is a set time limit for you to go from point A to point B. If you fall behind and have to make up some time thats where the fun is, but if you get to far ahead you will lose points and that sucks too...
The rally lets say states that it will take you to go from A to B in 21min and 50sec in time. That takes into consideration on normal accel, all traffic speeds and warnings..etc...
The wife and I did it 2 years ago for the first time, last year was post poned due to a nasty winter storm that shut down half of WNY. We placed in the 40th percentile out of 100+ cars that finished. Thats not counting the cars that gave up and left!. Its definately a test between you and the navigator that really gets on the drivers nerves  but its all in all a good time and if you fall behind like me, you get to play to gain back some time! Got to love drifting on a dirt road  on the side of a cliff
Basically the rally is not like the world rally racing you see on TV, its more thinking than anything. I personally am going to do it again this year, or atleast apply and hope it does not get post poned like last year...

The other cars were one's that caught my eye while there was still some daylight at the finish line. I was 1 of like 10 cars that were at the finish line when I took the above pics. Some people did not finish, while others were still getting to the finsh around 7pm. There were 74 cars total and I was car #2 to leave.
I placed somewhere in the low 30's out of 74 cars. All in all it was very interesting, especially when you get to play a little trying to make up some lost time
The wife got a kick at one stop sign when she seen smoke coming up from my front wheel wells from the overheated brakes! That stop I had major brake fade, even with ceramic pads and slotted rotors!
The poor little 2.0 was also huffing and puffing going up and down the hills trying to regain some lost time, it was huffing so hard that even though tthe temperature gauge stated I was running normal temps, I was still pinging with 93octane in the car
There were a few turns that were a little hairy especially with the loose stone thrown down on the backroads rescently....
Its definately a good time and remember its "NOT" a race..... :)
There were several interesting moments like when you pass someone going the opposite direction, you think about it, then you turn around to see that same person did the same thing and your passing each other again.

There was one section in the rally where Vik and I got lost on like direction #3, we did a U-turn and caought upto other people that were working on like #6, so we followed them and it ended up being a problem with everyone in the whole rally.

There was one direction that stated to make a turn after the "Black Man Walking". Well little did anyone know that a day or two prior to the rally, this sign was removed. And just about everyone in the rally got hung up on this one section of road flying back and forth trying to find the so called sign.

At one point I caught upto your corvair buddy and he stated he was on direction #13 at that point, So I ended up starting the rest from there. Also rumor has it the Orlean's county Sherriff was called by the locals because they stated there were a bunch of cars driving back and forth down there road and some of them had numbers on there windows and they were flying back and forth...lol

All in all, the weather was cool, no rain, and it was a blast...
More details from the email I sent my dad this morning(10-16-07)
