hello. My name is Matt and I'm new here.
I had a 1990 celica GT. I was going to turbo it but ran out of dough. It had a trd metal HG, 2-bar map sensor, green top supra injectors, 3s-gte oil pan, ect.
sold it. bought a blown up 1990 Talon Turbo AWD with bent valves. replaced the cylender head. No shaft play. I ran the poop out of it until my head warped. The rebuilt head I bought wasen't even milled within spec. I was pissed.
ANYWAY. I needed to sell the talon fast, but noone had money, so I traded my overheating and leaking p.o.s. talon for a nearly mint 2000 Dodge Neon. It had no options at all and 160xxx miles! That's alot, I know
If the finished product looks anything like this crappy photoshop I'll be very pleased!

Current Project

this is an idealized image of how it started, only it was much uglier.

I hated that poopie beige color so much, I spray painted the whole thing black, including the turn signals. The paint looks like crap, but I did a good job masking it off.
I hated the looks of it, but after my experience with fast turbo cars, I decided that I need to keep the neon through college because it is very reliable and drinks gas through a sippy-cup. avg. 33mpg.
But If I'm keeping it for a while, I want it to look better.
So this is my SRT/03 base model Frankenstein budget body conversion!
so far I have purchased:

SRT tail lamps *installed* . I found these on "2GN.ORG "For Sale" Thread.

Got this piece of crap for $30, but I'm using fiberglass and body filler all over it right now. I will make it work. Found it on 2GN.ORG.
I'm only a poor college student. I can't go get a new one!

Bought this from Jfman on SRTFORUMS.COM . Fairly cheap for a nice SRT rear bumper.

I won this spoiler on eBay for $28! the srt spoilers are too loud for my tastes anyhow. The auction said it was from an E.Blue neon "SX"
SPOILER INSTALL
Maybe you have read that Installing a spoiler on a Non-spoiler trunk is easy. It isn't . They say there are Idications for the holes left by the factory. I didn't find any. Maybe that only applies to 2003 and newer trunks, or I'm just plain BLIND

The two front posts seemed to line up with two spot welds on the trunk hinge.
They were about 1/4in. too narrow to fit. {notice the small third hole in the picture}
So I closed the trunk and used those two holes as references. I drilled new holes at equal distance just further from those indicator holes.
Now the upper posts lined up!. With the upper posts in the holes, I jiggled the back of the spoiler so that the two rear posts scratched the paint, marking where to drill the final two holes. It lined up great!

Heres the second problem:

The spoiler posts are too short to even go all of the way through the deck! The OEM nuts couldn't reach
here's my solution:

Remove the posts with some big pliers. They simply unscrew.

You will be left with threaded holes in the spoiler. Now you can secure it from underneath with appropriate sized screws and washers:

Use plenty of gasket maker (silicone) around your holes!

Screw your spoiler in loosely then close the trunk and set it exactly where you want it.
Tighten the screws with some thread locker for good insurance against vibration (*cough*subwoofers)

then use more gasket maker on the inner holes:

Let it dry overnight, then replace the carpet and enjoy!

I have fiberglassed over the missing chip off the bumper:

I filled in the bottom cut-out where the vertical crosshair used to be:

Here are some more pics: (I love my spoiler!)

The long crack is repaired. I found superglue holds plastic cracks together better than anything, it's just difficult to sand hardened superglue.
I will definately be using this sweet viper badge. I bet the red would look cool on an Electric Blue paint! Even my mom likes the spoiler, haha

I'm still waiting for the rear bumper and headlights before I paint it
I sprayed the first coat of black duplicolor on the front bumper yesterday.
I'll get a real paintjob later, but this will do until then.
I'll be getting some wheels soon so look out for that.

The rear bumper is on now:
It definately makes that crappy muffler look better. It doesn't even stick out now

I also reupholtered my door panels in desert camo.

My old rear bumper, old front bumper, and old headlamps are for sale by the way
picked up some SRT-4 wheels. I found them on Columbus Craigslist for $350 with two new hankook tires and two worn KDW's.
I DID NOT need SRT-4 struts. The front needed no modifications. the rear strut perches needed 10 minutes with my grinder. In my opinion it's worth a little work to save a lot of money buying new struts. I won't be interested in that until I lower it.
the front tire gap:

the rear tire gap, after grinding the "bump" off:

yes, those are 205/50/R-17. no 45's. no 40's.

I didn't have to move the washer bottle, but it's close:

bumper expanding brackets

I painted the brakes and bolted on an SRT-4 rear section. Yes, it is very loud, but it sounds soo mean when it backfires.
