Need a new battery, many q???

Post by khronus » Sun Aug 26, 2007 1:37 pm

Well, I need a new battery for my $700 beater, I've search the forums and all I see is info on the Optima red and yellow tops, I'm trying to go for performance instead of looks on my car and since the budget is TIGHT and I can't afford any go fast goodies at the time I'll have to go for the second best thing, weight reduction.
After some reading on the web, the average car battery weights in at about 38lbs(17.2kg to be exact) according to a recycle website which is the same as the optimas.
I've seen a couple of sites with lightweight racing batteries such as:
http://www.odysseybatteries.com/applications/auto.htm
http://www.performancedistributors.com/batteries.htm
They save 20 to 25 lbs
Q1? I've seen those used on race cars but, are they ok to use on a daily driver???
Q2? No disrespect to any1 here but I could care less for a high end stereo system but, can I safely run the stock radio or another regular radio to listen to some tunes on the way to/from work???
Q3? Would I have any problems at night, lights dimming etc...??

I'm thinking abouth the Odyssey PC680, or the PC925 as second choice, what do you guys think????
Any suggestions?, recommendations?, comments?, please talk to me I need a battery ASAP.

Just make sure you have at least 850 (I think it is) CCA (cold cranking amps). I do not think the PC680 will work for you, too small... as for the other, PC925 it will be fine. The dyna batt looks like it needs to be charged and does not work on an alternator :? I dunno :?

^^^ how can you tell if it works on an alternator??

I've seen some1 here with the PC680, and I know there's gotta be more pp here with this type of batteries, i really like the fact that it weights only 15lbs, although th PC925 just weights 24lbs, that's not bad either

Do a search on lightweight batteries, I know someone else is running something.

edit: Huh, my bad, guess what - this is the exact same battery you are looking for, PM SlvrACR and ask him if he had any problems ever with it.

my cai is 2.5", you'll need to get a non mag 2.0 cai. the magnum 2.0 motors use a 15 degree bellows tube and the non-magnum just use a straight bellows tube. also, get a k&n filter, works like a charm.
