Doors w/o molding help

Trying to get an idea how a certain wheel will look on your car, what it would look like lowered, or maybe you want something that’s completely off the wall. Post your requests here and someone will more than likely help you out.

Doors w/o molding help

Post by King Crab » Mon Aug 27, 2007 11:54 am

I would greatly appreciate it if some could remove the door moldings and then move the emblem straight down where the door crease is, and then maybe if it's not too much to ask have another one w/o the moldings and the emblem altogether.

Thank you in advance for the help

That's awesome... Thanks a lot for the help. Seeing is believing. I've been looking at lowering for a while especially since I saw your How to: on the coilovers. Just waiting to save the $$$$. Hopefully soon though. Again Thank you.

I really, really, really like this one a lot also. This is what I had envisioned it would look like in my minds eye. But Thanks to lambostealth for bringing it alive, I can now see it for what it is. Now I just have to get over my fears about doing something like this to a 7-year-old paint job.

I took your advice and asked BlackRoseRacing about the emblem, then contacted the dealer. The dealer does still have the Plymouth emblems available, for $60 each. I thought to myself you’ve got to be f*cking joking, $60 each; no way, they’re insane. Unless I’m extremely careful removing the old emblems to relocate them, I’m probably going to have to go totally clean at this time. I can’t see spending $120 for new Plymouth emblems. But after seeing the way this choice looks, this is exactly the way I ultimately want my baby to look.

Now lets see if I can muster up the courage and get this done without screwing things up.

Edit: I can't believe that I forgot to thank you Midnight_Rider for all you have contributed in this whole process. So Thank you!

Have a vinyl shop make you the "Plymouth" in chrome or just silver vinyl!

I love the way that looks down there, btw--nice idea.

Aww, it was nothing. :D I've learned a lot about brainstorming from everyone on this site so just trying to help you the way others have helped me.

Aren't there web sites where you can get custom stuff like that done? I can't remember them now, but I'd swear there were.

^ Yes I've searched the web a lot and found some places that do it. I believe I've found a way to preserve the existing logo's. The technique I used to remove the moldings a few months ago will work. My wife liked the de-badging of my trunk lid so much that she wanted me to remove some badges from her PT Cruiser's rear door. I was able to practice on her vehicle, with great success, without messing up any of the letters at all. So I feel confident that I'll be able to relocate the Plymouth badges as soon as I get the time.

Here's as she stands at the moment (not photoshopped), with the moldings off but the Plymouth emblem's where the are from the factory.

Thanks to all for their contributions during this process. You've gotta love 2GN.ORG

Holy crap you've got to share how you managed that.

(The Short)
To make a long story short I just used a hair dryer and some very thin fishing line. :)

I wrote this awhile ago for NeonBluSXT in one of her threads. I hope this gives you some insight as well 01rtgurl.

(The long)
As for the door moldings and badges, this is just a heads up on how I achieved my success: I use a hairdryer (Lowest setting) and some very thin fishing line (in a seesaw motion, keeping with the contour of the door and being careful not to lift up or pull away) to carefully remove the moldings and badges (1 letter at a time)(in our beautiful 75 degree California weather). I then used the hairdryer again to heat up the leftover adhesive and peeled it with my finger tip only (no nail). I got most of the leftover adhesive, but not all of it off. I then used some Turtle Wax Bug and Tar remover and patently got the rest of the adhesive off of the paint. Then I used some rubbing compound followed by some polishing compound followed by a quick wax, until the next weekend when I did a full detail on the entire car. Also just to let you know I did this entire project over a 2 day period. Passenger side on Saturday (6 hours), then the Drivers side on Sunday (6 hours). I probably could have done this a lot faster but slow and steady wins the race, right? I'm by no means trying to scare you off, I just thought if you know what your getting yourself into you could plan ahead. Do it right, and enjoy your hard work for a lifetime of enjoyment.

I hope this is of some help.

^ Thanks ZeroChad for the concern, but I removed the door moldings over 2 months ago. I was very fortunate as I had absolutely no fade, bubbles or anything that was negative. Just perfectly smooth matching goodness.

Yeah taking the moldings/badges off takes a very long time, but it's well worth it. BTW nice photo shop images.

Have you gotten around to lowering the badges down like in the photoshop?

I think it looks awesome but I'm curious what it'd look like for real.

^ No, I have yet to relocate the Plymouth emblem's. I'm planning on doing it sometime during the week of Christmas as I will be off of work and will have plenty of time to do it slow and right. Hopefully.

And when I do this, I will post some photo's here in this thread.

Thanks for asking.
