I work for a company that sells parts for both Panasonic and Alpine. I have never heard or used those specific deck models, but I can tell you that the Panasonic deck will be easier to find and obtain parts for. In the event that something breaks the Panasonic will likely be cheaper to fix and get running again.

If you want looks alone, go with Panasonic. If you want sound quality, look at spending a little more on the Alpine and get into a CDA line at least. Also, don't purchase either of these decks from your local retail store (best buy, circuit city, etc) instead look at some online dealers as you will be able to find some better deals. The last bit, talk with Chuck about these two decks, he can give you a real good rundown of the pros and cons of each.
Oh yeah, you'll want to make sure the navigation features of these head units are your style. A friend of mine just got the CDA-9853 and hates the glide touch like you wouldn't believe. So much that he is almost refusing to buy Alpine ever again.
