Brakes That Squeak: A Cause, A Cure and Ceramic Brake Pads

Post by sosilver » Tue Sep 04, 2007 6:21 pm

The front wheel brakes on my 2003 SXT squeaked all the time. The problem for my brakes was that the calipers/brake pads were always touching the brake rotors and had even carved out a rusting notch.

So the mechanic machined the rotors smooth and we replaced the brake pads with ceramic pads. Squeaks gone and brake dust on my rims totally eliminated by using the ceramic brake pads.

I was cleaning my rims every week. I've gone over 6 weeks and the rims are still looking good after the ceramic pads.

Any recommendations on certain brands?

Where did you buy yours from and how much did they cost?

Ive never had an issue with my fronts squeeking, but the rear drums are very noisy. Its like that on all neons ive driven/seen.

It's also the rear drums, those are responsible for a LOT of squealing and an ungodly amount of brake dust.

I got ceramic pads all the way around and it's squeak free, even in the morning when it was it's WORST!
