Hood scoop install advice needed.

Post by deep1ca » Tue Sep 04, 2007 10:45 pm

I bought some 03+ tails for my body conversion project and the nice guy threw in a 02 red r/t hood for free. The paint is pretty beat up and it has a one tiny ding at the front but I thought it would be nice project, if it doesn't work out I can just trash it.

I wanna install / mould in a hood scoop.

Has anyone ever install a hood scoop on a 2gen neon hood?
Your experiences? What sort of hood scoop fits well with the hood shape? What sort of hood scoop looks good?

At the moment I'm thinking of installing a 1969-1970 mustang mach 1 hood scoop.

Just a basic way to do it... I would say rivet the hood scoop down on the hood (where ever you want it), then fiberglass over it to the hood (probably not needed if your good with the rivets), and then add your bondo to smooth it out.... Lots of sanding will need to be done... Thats what I'll do...

Or you can always just send it to a body shop and fork over the money for them to do it.... Might be hella high though..

And another question I should ask is when it comes to painting the hood, should I sand down to the bare metal? Should I use a grinder?

Another idea is to just make a cut the same shape as the srt-4 scoop and push it down, smooth the edges and mesh the 1 inch gap.

Nah... just sand it down to knock the shine off it...

Those scoops wont look good, the neon is round its not a boxy muscle car. You need an srt \ wrx style scoop, something more round.
