Dynamat

Post by Adionik » Thu Sep 06, 2007 10:14 am

Okay this guy wants to sell me a brand new box, the big box of dynat for $50 bucks.

Is this worth the investment? I hate the way my trunk rattles but I don't want to buy this crap if it doesn't work that well. Does anyone have any experience with it?

I have one 12' with a ported box.

Thanks

LOL it's this guy from best buy. He doesn't give a shit so if i give him $50 bucks he'll throw it in the back of my car. I was supposed to buy it sunday but i didn't have the money so he "sold" it to my friend.

It felt like a drug deal was going down with the way he just threw it in the back of the car and we drove off

if your just stopping the rattles dynamat just the trunk lide, usually youll only dynamat the whole trunk if your going for a full SPL setup. as far as it being expensive, yea retail taht shit is nasty expensive (and i work for bestbuy) but again i get a $90 roll for $15 (employee discounts here are awesome) but still if you can get your hands on it use it this stuff works great. when i started i thaught dynamat was all bullshit then i baught my alpine setup and desided to try it, shit its only $30 worth for my trunk and DAMN! huge difference in SPL and sound quality

dynamat is to make the car more quiet, not for more spl. the vehicle will not resonate with dampening. I thought it was too for the longest time until the local stereo guy told me about it (he is/was ranked top 10 in the world for his division, and he had 3 layers throughout his whole truck)

i mean, it DOES make sense, a bell doesn't ring loud if you hold it by the bell itself. But I still like my dynamat inside my trunk, my setup is more sql, and eliminating all those rattles was well worth the money. If you have a large setup with high spl, dynamat will only help so much.

that's my 2 cents

Jesus I was just about to ask about dynamatting my trunk lid and this thread is here lol. Anyone have any pics of their trunk lid with dynamat/knockoff? I just want to see the way it looks as I'm about to do it to my trunk lid. It makes a huge difference by the way, I did it to my my Cherokee's hatch and the difference was night and day. Also I was wondering if they made a trunk lid carpet for any of our neons so I can cover up said dynamat.

I think i'm going to order some RAAmat. 62 feet for around $100 bucks isn't bad.

I plan to do the ENTIRE car except the roof. Don't see a huge need for that.

I know it'll add weight but once I go turbo I doubt that will seriously matter

for a neon ... yes 2 rolls ... you can email the guy and tell him what kind of car you have and what type of 'protection' you are looking for .. and he will let you know how much you need .. and if what you want is overkill ...

Damn I was thinking it would only need 1 for all of it. I'll do the trunk first then start with the floor...

i may be wrong, but the 'foam' is actually a sound barrier and not an anti-vibration item. using this in your trunk would be a waste. this is meant to insulate sounds from entering the cabin not stop the panels from vibrating.

I'm thinking about ordering one roll right now. My main priority is the cabin area. Can i get away with 1 roll? Is it that the trunk needs 1 roll for itself or should I just wait, save and buy both rolls at the same time?

i emailed the guy from raamat and he said i only needed one roll to do the car

I wnat to do the floors, trunk and doors. not the roof.

just as a rough estimate, with full coverage it will take about 100 sq ft to cover all 4 doors, the entire floor and the entire trunk (including lid).
