Quick Question: Is it safe to run with 4/5 nuts on wheel.
Quick Question: Is it safe to run with 4/5 nuts on wheel.
Just a quick question.
Is it safe to run one rear wheel with 4 nuts instead of 5, i lost one bolt.
Need answer asap. Thanks.

As long as the others are sufficiently tightened (Not over tight) it should be OK. Can;t count the number of broken studs i have seen on older cars out here when I used to work at sears.
You will want to get it fixed over the weekend if you can though.

Take it easy going around corners and make sure those remaining 4 are torqued properly. That will hold you over for a while.

The FSM calls for 100 ft lbs; I wouldnt suggest changing that in any way unless you have a legitimate reason to.
You should be fine with 4, but it would be wise to replace the 5th one soon, just to be safe.

Depends on the company. If you have a set of lugs from a reputable manufacturer (5Zigen, for example) then im sure they could arrange to send you only one. Otherwise, you'll probably have to buy all 20 as a set.

After the tire shop overtightened my lugs a while ago, I went to rotate the tires myself and I broke off a front stud.
I ran on only four lugs until I was able to replace the stud. I had no issues, then again I only did that for a little over a week. Also I have done my own tire rotation now for about 2 years and I've gone with 100 ft lbs of torque as the Haynes manual suggests. Just my .02

I've been runing with only four on the rear passenger side now since, um.... since April. I've removed and put back the wheels a number of times. Nothing's gone wrong.
Although FYI, a hub isn't expensive or that hard to replace in the back. Pop off the grease cap with a flathead screwdriver. Put the wheel back on and lower it onto the ground again (or if you have an impact gun you can just knock the bolt out while it's up in the air) so you can loosen the big ass nut.
It's like $50 or $60 from Autozone.
I only will replace mine when I switch to my SRT wheels, because you will notice the missing lugnut
Wait, there was a time when I broke all four studs off of the Corrado, but that was because the previous night some jackass tried to steal my wheels, and had one of them loosened but couldnt get the special nuts off (huh huhuh huh). I drove it the next morning, and after a few miles, the wheel basically sawed off all four studs. It happened as I rolled to a stop in an intersection. Was kinda funny, the wheel bounced at some dude standing at the corner.
I still have that car.... lol

Dude just how bad are your roads? I don't think I've ever broken a stud in my life, although I've inherited a number of cars with studs missing or broken.MoxHairR/T wrote:I break so many wheel studs because of the shitty ass roads around here. I just got sick of changing them

Hi. I have a complete set of spline tuner style lugs nuts that I have no need for. PM me again and we'll work something out.deep1ca wrote:I think I am going to have to replace the entire set, its a set of a lock nuts.
Do companies sell just one for replacement and stuff?

Come to Fort Myers and you'll see how bad they are. They are doing so much construction. I75 is torn up, US41 is torn up.
The whole way to my work is construction. And its a 13 mile drive. For 2 months the only way to get to my store was a torn up road where the Shoulder looked smoother. Reminded me of an off road buggie bouncing around. Then you got the spots where they are repaving and theyve grounded down the asphalt. Well they didnt make it a smooth transition between the grounded down and the old asphalt. So you hit this 3" curb and it jars the shit out of you.
I live in a Large city, but it feels like the back woods with all this construction.

I think thats pretty much all of florida. Here in Tampa there is so much construction on roads its crazy. I-4, I-75, us 301 is all in pieces. I wonder how much money they spend on roads but not on schools.MoxHairR/T wrote:Come to Fort Myers and you'll see how bad they are. They are doing so much construction.
