I'd like to read on here (or any car forum) that someone is actually receiving sponsorship for RACING and not for slammed sh0w carz, y0.

No offense, show car construction takes lots of work and creativity (when done tastefully and NOT when mostly done by said owner's favorite shops). But I hardly ever (never?) hear someone post that they received sponsorship for an actual race-prepped car.

Hitting local Autocross won't get you sponsored.. The only way to get sponsors Racing is to compete in a League that travels.. IE SCCA.

And who has the 1) Money and 2) Time to do this?

It takes so much money to get started with Road Racing. And Major leagues won't allow you to compete unless you go through alot of training and schools which are even more money.

It's just alot easier to slap a Body kit, some stickers and some neon on a slow POS than it is to learn how to drive, build a car, learn how to drive again, Get on the track, and learn how to drive and compete.

I did several events in Group 6 SCCA (1996 Eclipse GSX, 50 Trim, built 6 bolt, Built Transaxle, Coilovers etc etc etc )at a couple tracks in So-Cal. To tell you the truth, without having a financial Backer i wouldn't of been able to do it. Breaking Shit is expensive.

I would love to get back on the track and hit up Homested, Sebring, Road Atlanta, hell even just autocross. But alot of these events are away from home and on weekends. I just don't have the ability to get off of work to get there. I make money to afford my car addiction by working. But Work Stops me from enjoying my addiction.. Oh the cruelty.

Wow.

Man you just shot up a handful or so notches on my coolratings meter. Yeah dude you should get back into the game.... it sounds to me like you probably have the connections. A little schmoozing (to borrow a term from a buddy) goes a long ways in that world.

Certainly sounds like you have the experience to find your way back to it again.

Yup.
I used to have connections. A guy I went to high school with had very wealthy parents. They owned power plants and sold power to PG&E. We used his Air Condition Garage to work on the car and my old 1989 S-10 to tow it to events. It was alot of fun. I miss my friends, the Races, and the Garage. I'm so far away and I've lost contact with alot of the people I knew. I haven't been on a track since like September of 2003. Last I heard about my old car is my friend let the EGT peg for too long and he blew out the turbo. Haven't really talked to him in a couple years.

I really wish I could get back out there.. But to make good money you got to work. One day..

Currently I just get my fixed on doing some late night cone dodging in parking lots.

Its actually kind of funny how I got into the SCCA thing. I was go-karting with my friend and he asked if I had thought about getting into actual races. He was a DSM guy and walla..

The Stories I can tell...

EDIT- Just got my e-mail back from the Skip Barber School of Racing. $4000 for a 3 day track event at Sebring.. eh.. There goes that Idea of getting back into that side. Maybe I'll find out the local Autocross Schedule and kill some cones.

Who were you in the SoCal DSM world? Were you from the Imagine or RRE camp? I was active from 2000-2003. I started out by reading ALL the mailing list archives (remember the DSM mailing list?), and ended up on SoCal DSM's Yahoogroup.
