I <3 Modern.. Yay projectors! (56k... you've been warned

Post by Mr Josh Zombie » Tue Sep 11, 2007 7:46 pm

Just as usual, Modern Performance comes though again.
I placed my order last (last) Friday, they got the shipment in last Tuesday, and look what showed up on my door step. :D

Image

They really do package these things good...

Image

Out of the box!

Image

Some rather nice photos of the lenses.

Look ma! No balb!

Back of the housings.

Yes, these things have quite the buldge.

OEM with Projectors.

The Projector rubber is CRAP!

Now some installed pics.

Over all, it took me about an hour to get these installed and wired up. I'm still waiting for it to get dark out so I can go get them aligned. Right now, my halos come on with the parking lights and the side LEDs come on with the turns.

Questions? :D

**UPDATED NIGHT PICTURES***

Hopefully this will make Lambo proud. :D

First time turning them on. Notice how poor there aligned.
Image

So what do I do? Look for one of Lambos "How to align your projectors" post, and start aligning!

Moved the car back 25ft, marked the wall, and this was the cloest I could get without screaming. (You have to take the headlights out every single time you need to adjust them.)

Image

Sexy cut off. Wish it had a different hue though.
Image
Image

Driving lights on.
Image

Image

Image

Brights. (Notice... i have no idea how these should look 25ft from the wall.... so I didn't bother.)
Image
Image
Image

Any now the turns.
Image

I would of gone out driving... but I had some start problems. After about an hour of searching the car as to WHY my car didn't want to start or run properly, I found this....

Image
Image

Ha! Explain THAT one......

You wont be seeing a full shot for another 6 or 7 months. :D

So far, I've got a few things on order exterior wise... car goes into paint to fix a few problems, and then new rims.

I'll finally be done with this damn car come early next year. :D

Back in the day the Cougar owners were using cold cathode tubes. So bright you can see them in the daytime.

Na, I have no plans on HIDS right now. I'm happy with what I have. I'll screw with those later.

Adionik wrote:you have a yellow neon? dude post pics!
Of corse I have a yellow neon. Why else would I try and get those side skirts off of you?
And no, no pictures. I hate the way the neon looks right now. If you want to see, search for a "Sollar yellow ONLY" thread. It's around here somewhere.

Those are pretty sick... But I don't care that much about the halos. I'd prefer them without to be honest.
jckevns wrote:Did modern include some kind of wiring instructions, pictures
Yes, they did. But, it's really not hard at all to do. It's more or less common wiring sense.

Also, updated with some night shots.

I never drive my car during the week, only on the weekend. And during that time, I'm up in Michigan.

I will say that they look tons better than the chrome. The halos don't really bug me, it's those LEDs  They don't look half bad though, wish you would post some of the whole car though lol

Lambo is proud!

You did a great job aligning them, the drivers side needs to come up a bit still, but, looks better than any other set I've seen. Plus, it's obvious someone knows how to take decent night pics of headlights.

As an added bonus.....try this out.

Take the headlights out again (yes I know it's a PITA), take the low beam bulb out. Reach into the projector with your finger if possible and bend the shield inside TOWARDS THE BULB ever so slightly, so, pull it towards you, SLIGHTLY. Each time, put the bulb back in, and shine the headlight against a wall 25 feet away. What you are doing is changing the way the light is bent inside the projector, and adding more blue/purple to the cutoff. Do one light until you are happy, then do the other so they match. If you can't reach in with your finger, I use a fork with a bent handle or something to hook around the shield. Just remember to do it firmly but very gently. It's not crazy fragile, but, you don't want to bend too, too far and break the shield off, or slip and scratch the projector bowl. I would say you would want them bent a maximum of 1/8".

Have fun.

Woot! Lambos seal of approval!

Yea, Once i got them all set and "done" i realized that i still needed to pull the drivers side up a bit. But, I figured it's fine for now, since it's better to have it more down than up.

I knew you explained how to do the color cut off somewhere... but couldn't remember. I figured you'd just post up again. :D
I swear you need to create a sticky on projectors/hids.

So, tonight drivers side gets moved up a hair, and then I'll try to adjust the color cut off.

Oh, and thanks for the pic compliments. I didn't bother using a tripod either. I'm just that damn good.

Any idea on how the brights should look though? :/

Your brights look fine. It's an ugly pattern, that doesn't shoot anywhere but forward, but it's uniform, and thats what matters.

By the way, your beams look a bit low to me, at 25 feet, they should measure JUST under the heighth of your actual headlights center.

Where that middle brown beam is, that's where my tape was marked. I dropped the lights roughly a foot and a half under it. (Yea, i know... it's supposed to be 2ft. I didn't wanna, haha.)

BUT it was dark out, and i probably wasn't paying much attention to my tape measurer.... I'll look at it again tonight.

At least I don't have to screw with the high beams then.

dude im so glad you went with black looks awesome on the ride, and i had the same problem with my alt wire too , you got a weak ground around the raditor support on the driver's side you gonna have to pull that off and clean the contact some. and of course you gotta replace the wire, i upgraded mines from pep boys to a 4 guage wire.

So, I tried to adjust the color by bending the shield.... yea I couldn't get anything strong enough down there to bed it. It's one VERY tiny hole and a HUGE pain in the ass to try and fit something in there... so I gave up.

Also got the beems 100% aimed this time. I think I got the hang of it, haha.

Thanks for the idea Krack. I checked it out and cleaned the ground -just in case-
