Splash Shield
ok, so i'm in the process of talking to jason about getting permission for this but this is JUST A FEELER...
i'm planning on making splash shields. i was just wondering how many people would be interested in one IF i were to sell them for $12 (USD) shipped. i know that other places sell them for $20+ and i figured i could take care of them for less.
i'll post a pic of one next week, monday or tuesday if you guys want. but it looks alot like the pt-performance one, but not T-304. They would probably be galvanized steel.
another optoin i MIGHT look into is painting to match, that way it doesn't matter if they're stainless and they'll look good too... THIS IS A BIG MAYBE as of right now

what do you mean splash shield? The part that covers the cai tube from the tire?
Or from the bottom that would keep water out?
Either way i'll take one for $12 FOR sure i love those damn things

I have a K&N Typhoon which came with a water sock, so why do I need this?

what is this water sock???? My AEM for the SRT engine came with an aluminum splash shield, however it did not have one for the standard 2.0L. So some systems come with them and other don't. Good luck yo!Arro wrote:I have a K&N Typhoon which came with a water sock, so why do I need this?

its called a prefilter, most of the popular CAI producers, sell these as well, for intake filters located close to the road. It's basically just a thin nylon raincoat for your filter, water hits it and beads off it, keeping it out of your engine.
Probably a good idea for anyone running a fenderwell CAI, in a rainy city.

What would people think about making little scoops to force air up into the area. Maybe even make a little piping setup so that is comes down right to the scoops?
Think there would be any benefit at speed?

You can order a K&N prefilter for your car if your AEM didn't come with something like that.
I do have pictures somewhere but I'm not home right now, and they're on the desktop. I'll post them tonight.

It is nicer than the one I made, as far as fresh air I installed a screen in my fog light blankout that lets air in. But it will also come in around the radiator support also. If you pull your headlight you can see everything. As far as any benefit probably not much maybe a little, damn little, positive pressure at speed but nothing that would benefit WOT. Besides the + pressure would be on the atmosphere side of the throttle plate. The manifold side will still be vacuum. (unless there is engine/exhaust driven forced induction)

Is the splash shield sealed at the seams? How impervious to water is it? What I am thinking is unless it's more effective than the prefilter, it's just more weight. But I could be wrong.

If it is siliconed when installed it would be. But it still will not help if you drive through 2 feet of water (common sense),but then neither would a pre-filter! It does keep water out that is splashed forward by the tire when you hit a heavy puddleArro wrote:Is the splash shield sealed at the seams? How impervious to water is it? But so would a prefilter, and it would weigh less, and cost less.
I dunno. I'm still undecided about this. But it's a good topic with the rainy season comming up!

But the one advantage that it has over a pre filter is mud, will the pre filter shed grit and soupy mud? Some of us do live in rural areas. Tho this may not apply to your situation it is something to consider.
