upper passenger side torque strut

upper passenger side torque strut

Post by Paul56 » Fri Sep 14, 2007 6:16 pm

How serious is this...

Inspection of of rubber inside the mount revealed that the top rubber has completely broken free. The rubber is still in there, but one side is broken free. The other two, I believe there were two, are still attached however one of them doesn't appear to be in the best of shape.

EDIT: My bad, it is called an upper torque strut not engine mount.

If I replace the upper torque strut do I need to do this torque strut adjustment discussed on page 2a-19 in Haynes 2000 thru 2005? ...or is that only if I replace both?

You'd still want to do it.

If the rubber has ripped loose you may need to replace the rubber also I don't think the insert will help much if the center is free from the brace. I'm pretty sure I seen some rubber inserts that can be pressed into the strut but I may be wrong. Maybe ask at a parts store. dealer pricing is as follows for the whole thing.

4668193AD $46.60 List ATX
4668346AE $84.10 List MTX ouch!

But the inserts are a good investment, they will help the new rubber last alot longer!

i can attest that you WILL need to buy a new strut or completely fill the one you have with urethane. It gets when people post info that you can simply buy inserts to "fix" a broken torque strut/motor mount when it's simply not the case. inserts will help only if you have properly working torque struts.

Do yourself a favor, head over to SRTForums and buy yourself a used torque strut set for less than 50 dollars. The SRT set bad stronger rubber than the stock neon set. Not only will they last longer on your car but they will help stop some of the wheel hop.

I have tried all different combinations of mounts. the SRT is a great bang for the buck if you need to replace a busted torque strut.

Cool if it can be had for < $50 then I'd do that even if replacement rubbers can be bought then you would likly be over $25.
replacement rubbers... need a better way to say that!

I believe the durometer of the rubber used. The MTX may be a bit stiffer.
