2002 stuck in gear

2002 stuck in gear

Last night, when I was driving, my check engine light came on. After that, I soon realized that my transmission wasn't shifting out of (I'm assuming) first gear. Thinking it was stuck, I got it up to 35 to see if it would then shift. Still no luck.

To rule out the obvious, I checked all my fluid levels. Transmission fluid was fine, oil was low so I filled that up. Hoping that could be the answer, I reset the onboard computer by disconnecting the battery for 10 minutes. Still check engine light, still not shifting. I did the ON-OFF-ON-OFF-ON-OFF-ON test to see what error codes popped up.

I got the one where it said the battery had been disconnected, but then I got another one: P0700. I checked what it was, but it was Greek to me -_-. I looked around on another site, and found out that it means "a serious malfunction with the automatic transmission." Reading on, I also found that if a serious problem had occured, that the transmission will lock in second gear so you'll have enough speed to get to a mechanic.

I'm at a loss right now. Here's the basics on my car:

Try reseting your PCM by unhooking the positive side of your battery for about 5 min, and then see if that works. But if it doesn't you are going to have to have your car scanned to narrow down the exact problem.

Another member on this board had the same problem and had to replace the TTC solenoid which was about $16. So I would get your car scanned to narrow down the problem first, or you could try to replace the TTC solenoid first and see if it works.

Is it a 4 speed or 3 speed? That sounds like the limp mode for the 41TE/A604. If your clutches take too much fluid volume to engage it will do that. It is a fail safe to keep from totally frying them.
