2.0L 1/2 HEMI MOPAR Old School

Post by GTS » Mon Sep 17, 2007 10:23 pm

Here is my duplicate, I saw this on someone else's car around here and I liked it so much that I had to do it myself. I call it the :quotes: Old School Mopar 1/2 HEMI :quotes:

Here are before and after pictures. BTW the car was upgraded with UDP and an ICEMAN intake.
Dismatling the engine. ohhh so fun.

Ohhh BTW the engine has 67K miles on it and its freakin clean under there, thanks to MOBIL1 SYN since day one.

I was a little afraid that I was gonna over do it so I backed off on the Orange, paint, made it look somewhat of a dull orange rather then shiny and I tried to make it darker then the screaming old school orange that they used. I also tried to keep the entire compartment clean, dust and oil free but i still have to tuck away some of those wires and hoses.

Its actually a CHEVY Orange by Duplicolor, the other kind of orange was almost too dark and reddish looking so I picked this one as it looked much better, much closer to the MOPAR orange back in the days.

COPY CAT!!!!

Ha, looks good, but you gotta do something with the lettering. Looks kinda blah with them painted orange. Might look cool if you sanded them down to bare metal and polished them?

What are you guys using for a clear coat when you do this (if any) ?

Thanks,
Kevin

I myself didn't use clearcoat on the valve cover...I did, however, use it on my injector cover. I used the DupliColor's High Temp engine enamel clearcoat. Works very well and gives a very high-gloss look, but the valve cover came out SO good, I didn't use any and still looks fantastic without it.

hey when you painted your DC strut bar, did you just mask off the logo plate that is pop riveted on?? Mine is looking real crappy from contacting the hood, rubbing the paint off the bar, and now it's rusting. :(

Well I took the tag off, removed the rivvets and cleaned it carefully after which i clearcoated it with maybe 5 coats of clear, and then simply bolted it back on with two little bots and tiny nuts on the back side. I think it looks better that way although I think that the underside mat was touching it again and now the clearcoat has got some roughness to it from that so maybe I will have to redo it.

Ok, cool. I want to do a Fuel Rail Cover, and the Valve Cover in Mopar Corperate Blue. I was originally going to powdercoat the valve cover, but I want the two to match good.
