Much congratz on the job April! I'm happy for you! Right now, I'm raking in $18 an hour ATM, waiting on a raise, occasional overtime, quarterly bonus' ($300 usually, then taxed to hell). Only thing is, my fiance isn't working right now, and she has 2 kids, cost of living is moderately priced, I raised my deductible on my homeowners insurance so that my mortgage went down a little, so my payments are $885 a month or so, plus gas electric, water, car payment and insurance.....
She's getting a job this week or I'm gonna freak! Luckily the city gives her assistance with food, and the kids have medical coverage, plus their father is paying child support, so its helping, but we're still barely scraping by each month. I guess everyone hope my fiance gets a job too, so I can mod the 95 (and fix my bathroom).
Anyone ever notice Google spell checker tries to replace "Fiance" with "Finance"?

I don't rake in the cash, but IMO you guys are getting paid shit and generally seem to be happy about it. I'm not picking on you in particular, just with this thread and a few others that have been posted in the past I can't believe what some of the going wages are down there. Last time I was making that kind of money was part time in highschool. These days I won't even get out of bed for that.
I'm happy you're working, but it just really surprises me.

Oui. If its standing, I know alot about that. I usually walk about 4 miles at work, and stand for 6 hours of the day, and I'm supposed to wear work boots. Most of the time I wear sneaks. I might buy another pair of Doc Martins, they were the best set of boots I ever had.Bella Lugrossi wrote:well it went pretty good. my back is tired from standing most of the day. i need new shoes pronto.
Glad you had a good first day! I wish you luck in the future too hun!

I average about 10 to 12 miles a day at work just taking care of patients in the ICU...or so my pedometer says.

You have to remember that the cost of living(and lower taxes) varies GREATLY from region to region making it quite possible for someone making a lesser income to have more spendable money.fixitmattman wrote:I don't rake in the cash, but IMO you guys are getting paid shit and generally seem to be happy about it. After watching some of the "Sell my house" shows with my wife we've seen equivalinet houses to ours sell for 1/4 of what we'd get for ours. Plus, from some other threads, mechanic rates locally are $92 and down south $62ish that's about 30% less.
If the cost of living in a region is ~30% less and has substantially lower tax rate it would be possible for someone with a $10/hr income to have more/similar spending money and still have the same lifestyle as someone with $20/hr in a different region or country.
Why do you think our seniors go to U.S for the winter? According to my grandfather (when he was alive) it was because it's so much cheaper, even more so now with our dollar being higher. Granted, I bet the warmer climate is another reason, but I'd wager the main reason is because of lower cost of living.
BTW: Congrats on your new job, I hope you enjoy it.

Hey April, I know I am way late but congrats on getting the job. As far as the hourly wage goes, as long as it's enough for you then that's all that matters.
I don't skinny dip. I chunky dunk!
