Windshield Glare

Post by aperson » Fri Sep 28, 2007 1:55 am

This may sound weird but when I drive I get a lot of glare on my windshield from my dash. As in when I look out of the windshield I see a refection of my dash in it. Is there anything to get rid of this?

:slap: ...Wash your window, and then wash your dash with mild soap and water. It shouldn't shine to the piont where it distracts you (unless you use armoral and make it shine). Just my .02

I miss my neon at times. She treated me well and taught me a lot about cars in general. I will always have a special place in my heart for these cars. Heres to the 2gn community.

Take the top of your dash out. Removing the top of the dash will allow you to easily clean all parts of it. Hopefully there isn't Armour-All on it. If there is, remove it. I have found the Mr. Clean Magic pads excellent for removing Armour-All. Wash it thoroughly with soap/water solution. Resist the temptation to re-coat it with any sort of treatment.

Put a vinegar/water solution in a spray bottle or do like what I do and purchase the Windex Vinegar product, get yourself a couple of microfibre cloths and clean the inside of your front windshield.

Why vinegar? Because it will cut through the grime and leave your windshield streak free better than any other product... in my opinion anyways. You may need to go over the inside of the windshield a couple of times to get it right.

Done right and given a windshield in reasonable shape... you'll think there is NO windshield when driving. :D

It was a brand new windshield as of last year so it isn't that bad. Won't the vinegar stink up the car though? My sis used Pledge when she cleaned my windows for me last time so I think thats the problem. Thanks a bunch, will definitely try this.

Pledge! Oh my gosh!

Your car will temporarily smell like the inside of a pickle jar for a bit, but that is a small price to pay for clean glass.

Just don't use the vinegar with garlic. <joke>

a vinegar and a water truck are travelling towards each other ont he same road and as they crest a hill on either side they run into each other and - douche!!! - they crash.

The vinegar works wonders for removing greasy stuff, we used a similar solution to clean the smoker rooms in the hotel I worked at for a while, they get all the grime from the glass and stuff where other cleaner would not. Do a 1:1 mix of water:vinegar... that will smell, but leave your windows open on the car while doing it, and leave em open for a while afterwards, the smell will disepate.

this is a trick that my 70 year old father taught me, but we don't use microfibers, we use newspaper. streak free and cheap as hell.

This should only happen if you're using a product to make the dash shine.

No shine = no glare.
