Tech question: dealership employees please read

Post by Wenuden » Wed Oct 10, 2007 10:07 pm

Question: I seem to recall reading on here somewhere about SRT certified dodge techs... first, are there "certified SRT techs", and second, if so, does a tech have to be certified to work on one? and third, if 1 and 2 are true, can anyone get me a list of local certified techs? local dealership zip is 22306.

I'm hearing a (what sounds to me like) knocking noise at idle, that rises in rate with rpm's. when i push the clutch in at speed, the sound rate drops w/ rpm's. I can't hear it under the hood, only from inside the car. it's not that loud, but noticable, and wasn't there yesterday. sounds like it's coming from the passanger side of the motor. just noticed it this afternoon on the way home from work. I replaced the coil/wires/plugs (ngk 4306's at .40 gap) last night, didn't hear the noise then, and havn't beat on her hard since. I'm going to the dealer on monday to get a fuel level sending unit replaced under warranty, wanna have them take a listen to this noise. wanna know about certified techs cause i'd love for someone who was specially trained on these cars to work on it.

passanger side.. When you changed the Motor Mounts did you tighten the bolts all the way? Or.. One of those bolts could of broken off.. Maybe the splash guard is rubbing. When I changed my Lower mount I had a slight knock. Took the mount out and it went away.

One thing about the Passanger side that scares me is that is exactly where the Oil pump is.

d'oh didn't even think about the mounts. i put the monster tight twist on them, one might possibly have broken. I need to invest in a torque wrench and FSM... if it were one of the mounts, i would expect the bolt at the block to break, not the one at the body. if that were the case, i can't see how it would account for the rise/fall in knock rate with rpm's. i'll check it out anyways tomorrow at work, and probably find some stronger bolts or order the ones modern sells. as for the spash shield, that's a really good possibility, there's a nice semi-circle rubbed all the way thru it from one of the pulleys already. when i put it back on, i bowed it away from the pulley as much as i could, maybe it's slipped back.

It's probably nothing serious. i'm not throwin any codes, the car's driving fine. i just like to prepare for the worst lol.

on a side note, went out for cigs after posting, and the PS pump is acting up too. had to go to steering lock to park when i got back, pump makes a freakin horrible rattlish grind.
