The thing is freaking sweet, but I have to say its nothing like the original, its quiet and refined, and it handles well but to get a real comparison you will have to take two side by side drive em listen to them etc... to figure out which one you like better, I personally love the new one, its just that much better then the old one but thats just me. I think the AWD version will be much better choice but we will just have to hold our breaths until it hits show rooms.

Thats my buddy's Escort that he took on the course... lots of work and sweat went into that thing but the final result was good.

I am planning on purchasing a SRT-4 Caliber in 2009 or 2010 if no other cars around that price catch my attention! I am on a calling list at a couple of dealers, so when they get one in I can go test drive it

Well the way I see it 09 might be the year when they release the AWD which will have projected power of about 325hp... the current one was supposed to be 305 but due to terrible torque steer they dropped it about 20hp and limited the boost in 1st gear just to keep the tires from braking loose too much...
The one at the autoX seemed real fast and no tire spin at all the guy seemed like he was babying it but the numbers tell everythign, in fact he was right up there with the AWD cars and the other Turbo cars... so that thing is not slow at all.
I am thinking about getting one but we will have to see, Ford is about to let out a new Fusion with AWD and a 2.5L Turbo from its SVT line up and being that I am a Ford Engineer, I might get one....

I have always been a Ford guy, and I like the fusion... Sounds like another car I might be interested in, and my dad gets A-plan!

where are you getting your info..?
cause there is Nothing on the intraweb and I've read nothing about AWD even being a possibility otherwise.
this quote sums it up

The caliber looks ginormous. Definitly didn't look right going around a turn like that.

Well it shouldn't be nothing like the original because the original was a Neon and the new one is a Caliber.

Yeah, that boxy look doesn't seem right for an SRT. I never exactly liked the Caliber since the first time I saw it.

I do not see it as profitable to design, manufacture, test, etc etc a brand new system for something that would drive the price up to a price point people won't buy. Selling it for a couple grand more wouldn't make up for all the millions they would have used to research and develop it. A $30-35K Dodge won't compete with a $30-35K Evo or STi.
Plus nothing in the automotive world is a secret especially considering you're saying 09 when the 08 Caliber SRT-4 is about to hit the market. Nothing would be this secretive, where there is no info on it this close to 2009. Especially on a car that would bearly sell a 1000 a year. All that wasted money wouldn't make sense.

Well I am sorry I just dont feel like starting the whole topic of who knows what and who got their info from who, I dont want to compromise my friendship with my fellow Neon members and my sources... but best put would be "just wait and see" thats all I got to say.
BTW the AWD was in development but it reduced accelaration times and increased weight of the vehicle and all combined with cost acted in a negative sence and thats why they decided to put it off for now... but the issue with the torque steer is so bad that they have to go back to the original idea and the AWD... the RT already has it... so there wont be any significant increase in cost except they will need to beef up some of their components...
But then again lets just wait and see what will come down the line...
The current magnum and charger are going to the 390hp from 340 and the displacement is upped to a 6.1 I think...

The R/T has AWD, true
Will the SRT-4 ever have AWD? Doubtful.. probably NEVER
It would mean Engineering a NEW Transaxle, Stronger and NEW components, Changing the suspension Geometry, Moving the engine around, Changing the production facility, Increasing the weight of the vehicle and raising the cost of the vehicle to a range that isnt profitable.
Its a Matter of Logistics.

Atom = Go Kart.. and I rather like my windsheild here in rainy florida.
The Elise with the sport package and removeable hardtop is plenty light for me.. It would run dead even with my SRT til about 75-80. then my SRT would walk it of course.

Someone remind me how much the Caliber weighs in at.
I suspect it's far heavier than a 2GN. That alone is a killjoy if so.
This guy with "his sources" sounds like his nose is gonna grow.they said the same thing about AWD 2000 Eclipse, AWD SRT-4 neon, etc. Lots of tall tales out there. Add this to the pile.
Drive it like you stole it, and work on it like you married it.
