Header

Post by 2001Neon_LX » Sun Oct 21, 2007 8:37 pm

I know this subject has been beaten to death, but I have a few questions that I couldn't find the answers for so I come to the experts. I am looking at getting a header for my car, its the next mod im looking at, and I was wondering if firstly: 1. If i will notice a gain at all from a shorty header, or if I should just go long tube, 2. How well will my car run sans Cat. Converter, it will throw codes, but how will it run, 3. Lastly how much of bitch is the stock manifold, down pipe and such to take off of a 6 year old car. Thanks Guys.

1. Notice some gains from a shorty header, probably pick up 2-3hp.

2. It will run fine, but be stupidly loud depending on what else you have for an exhaust.

3. Not too bad, if you use a penetrating fluid on everything and much easier if you can get it on a hoist to do the work.

Question for you: What are you going to do about your E-Test?

I have a Magnaflow Oval Muffler welded in place of the stocker, and Bayfield is in Huron County which is one of the only, if not the only County in Ontario that dosen't have the smogger test.

Long Tube over short tube for sure.

Car will run the same. I don't have my lower o2 sensor in my cat and it runs fine, you only go into limp mode with the upstream sensor disconnected.

Manifold is a huge bitch. So is the heatshield.

go with a lth, and do the spark plug non-fouler mod (do a search!) and you will 1) throw no codes and 2) run without a cat.

running without the cat AND a LTH granted me a gain of 8 whp on a magnum motor (135 to 143). Removing it just requires some time, lots of penatrating fluid, and band-aids. Oh, and about 4 hours of work for the first timer with some mechanical skills... mind you I had to SAW off my downpipe from the rest of the exhaust.
