I'm finally going to begin collecting the parts required to swap my auto for a manual. I came across some shift cables but they're from a SRT-4. Will they hook up okay to the neon transmission once I get it?
I'm about to buy:
Shift cables (if srt ones are interchangeable)
Shifter/knob/boot
From what I understand I still need:
Transmission
Transmission mount
my car year ecu (recomended)
Passenger side axle
Pedal assembly
Am I missing anything?
I also have a few more questions.
1. Will the srt-4 transmission work with my 2.0? Or am confined to getting a neon transmission? I read somewhere that you could...
2. Will my car be faster with a SRT tranny or a regular neon tranny?
3. I found an ecm from a manual 2005 neon. Will that be okay? Or do I definately have to get one from my year (2003)?

No, the trans side is different on one of them.
also, your year ecu is more of a required than a recommended, or atleast an 03+. you can't use a 00 - 02 ecu. if you keep your auto ecu, it will throw fits about not communicating with the trans.

I think you would be better off with a tranny from an r/t or acr with the 3.94 as opposed to the 3.55 out of a regular neon. I hope to swap in a 3.94 with a pt clutch in the future, but that all depends on whether or not I have money. BTW, I think I have seen your car before....

the r/t tranny will give you better acceleration since it has the higher final drive ratio, but you lose overall top end cruising speed because of it. If you frequent highways going 60+...be prepared for droaning from the higher rpm's required for the r/t tranny...
The SRT tranny will bolt up to a 2.0, and vise versa, and 04+ has LSD...but I'm not sure that the 2.0 block has the bolt bosses required to bolt up the half shaft on the passanger side.
Also. neon axles are a dime a dozen...they're everywhere... SRT axles on teh other hand, the passanger side is on NATIONAL BACKORDER from mopar and NO ONE makes OEM replacements for them. ONLY choice is the DSS Axles, which are very expensive and usually you can only get them as a set, Modern Performance will not sell you just 1 or the other. My suggestion is to get an r/t tranny

Yeah, I go to UNLV and that was me. I am finally on my last year. I am not planning on doing anything with my trans until sometime late next year. I think I just hit 17k on the car so....I don't know. If you are looking for a r/t trans you could check out car-part.com or NV pic a part.bdmski wrote:Do you go to UNLV? I think I raced you one night last semester. You beat me by about 5 car lengths! I'm in Henderson often too. I want a manual.Maybe I could buy yours if you're upgrading? Where can we find an R/T one?
