SRT4 Exhaust
SRT4 Exhaust
I'm looking at getting an srt4 rear section for my 2000 neon.
Will this be stupid loud? Looking for comments from people with experience in doing this, sound bytes might help aswell.
Stock engine, with a cai. 5 speed.
I don't want it to sound like a fart cannon, or a civic.

I notice you are new, so I understand you may be new to forums as well. So...
At the top of the page there is a search link. That will be your best friend while you learn. Many people have done te srt exhaust, as well as the TB and UDP questions that you had in the other thread. The search function here is pretty good especially when compared to ones at neons.org or even at BITOG.
From what I understand an n/a motor with just a cat and no muffler is very obnoxious. you need atleast a glass pack in there. but i have never done this before.

I currently have the R/T header and cat, SRT mid and rear section. I LOVE the sound but hate the volume. At 110km/h the drone is annoying and from a set of lights when you are accellerating it is too much, everytime I see a police car I push in the clutch.

Yes, it is stupid loud if it is just used to replace the stock muffler.
The SRT rear section is pretty much for show. It doesn't do much for sound dampening. As a matter of fact, I think the first time I took my muffler off and drove with JUST the glasspack, it sounded better.
I would suggest a 25' glasspack. A guy I know has one and the rumble sounds badass...way better than my 31'.

Tons....sounds great with a glasspack.
But if you go too big it sounds boring and sucks, less rumble
Too small, cabin noise is pretty loud from what i've heard,

Put in a 29" glasspack today, volume is good. You are right though, too big and it becomes boring....

So I have a 01 R/T with CAI & SRT-4 mid pipe and rear section. I love the sound. The drone is a bit much at first, but like everything, you will get used to it. As for the law, around here they do not tend to pay too much attention to the neon's. I have wanted to put on a glass pack but I would have to hear it before I cut up my mid pipe.
Here are a few video's for you.

IMO, I think it is a wise choise for your car. I gained approx. 50km per tank!

I gained 75km's on the last 3 tanks since putting the SRT exhaust on, but the drone was just too much, the glass pack make it tolerable.

Yup it's the whole package really.
The engine, the turbo (muffler), the resonators (mufflers) and the rest of the exhaust.
The biggest reason why you can't achieve that sound is because of the lack of turbo. I heard a clip of a flowmaster 80 series with 2 resonators. It sounded nice and throuty.

Well the full SRT Cat Back on my 01 R/T sounds much better than my buddy's. He has an 01 R/T as well but just has the rear section, so stock R/T from cat back to the rear section, and he is MUCH louder than I am.
Something to do with the 2 resonators and the smaller dia. of the exhaust piping I think.
Either way, I find the SRT Cat back rather nice. If you know how to drive (no offence to anyone) you can manage the sound nicely. If you want you car to be quiet you can.

The FlowMaster 50 Delta that I just had installed sounds nice and it's not too loud either. Cabin noise isn't bad at all, you can just hear the exhaust without it bustin' your head the way the FlowMaster 40 did when I put it on my '04 Ram 3.7L, I had to replace it within a couple days with a 70 because it was just too damn loud, especially in the cabin of the truck.
Turbos help to quiet the exhaust quite a bit, in fact a lot of guys running turbos don't even run a muffler and they still sound pretty good. Without a turbo you'll get a lot louder exhaust, which as has been said is a Cop Maganet. I think as long as you add a decent resenator you'll be ok but you will need one or you'll be way too loud.

keep it, put it back on when you sell the car, and make 3 times as much on the aftermarket as you could for the stock lol. you'll still get a pretty penny for the car if you take care of it.MyNeonSaysHi wrote:When I get my system I will be selling my entire SRT exhaust system.
"never sell stock parts unless you wreck or sell the car with aftermarket" is my motto. even tho my parents are getting tired of tripping over my mid-pipe and the 2 srt rears in their garage.

i've also got a set of srt rims with tires, a sub box with 2 12" RF's, a motorcycle muffler, 2 motorcycle wheels w/ tires, everything necessary for an srt rear brake swap on a non-disc car, my stock air-box from the srt, a DC rear strut bar, and a few stock parts from my sxt and stuff i havn't put on the srt yet lol. by the end of next year, i'll probably be able to buy a shell and build another srt. collecting shit is fun lol.mike9fore wrote:Sounds Like the Garage at my house!~!!Wenuden wrote:keep it, put it back on when you sell the car, and make 3 times as much on the aftermarket as you could for the stock lol. you'll still get a pretty penny for the car if you take care of it.MyNeonSaysHi wrote:When I get my system I will be selling my entire SRT exhaust system.

the srt mid pipe is 2 1/4 in dia and the stock mid pipe is 2" all the way.. thats why if you want a lil bit of noise in the back you need the rear section alone. If you want it twice as loud then get the entire srt cat-back. the bigger pipes you get the louder its going to be.

well for living in kitchener and being part of one of the largest growing car clubs in central ontario, PSA
I have been told NUMEROUS times I have one of the best sounding neon's n/a in town
all I did was removed the res, and replaced stock muffler with camaro style magnelflow muffler and added some nice 4 inch tips, my car has quite a nice tone, and its very smooth sounding, almost like a kl series mazda motor..
I will post a sound clip tommorow
