Turbo timer Install 56k Yeah Right.

Post by oklamopar » Wed Oct 31, 2007 2:17 am

Now this isn't a how to but just some pictures of my different idea of location.
I chose under the column for a few reasons. 1: not a gauge. don't really need to See it when driving. 2: empty space that's not normally used.
Now on to the pictures.
This is the under dash panel, with Styrofoam removed.(what a pain).

And of course the timer.

now a few with timer in the panel.

here it is installed in car.

and one with out flash.

Well there it is. Dig it or not. Just use your imagination when adding stuff.
Thanks for lookin'

I have the apexi, which is ok to me, but I'd like to know what you think about the greddy.

Great location as well. +1 for originality.

still have to hook up speedo wire. so far its great. easy to set time. dont have to drive very far to work. 2 miles round trip, so not much time to go into high mode. ill post more after this weekend. I may even get to do a 1/4 mile run.

question though.. why do you even need a turbo timer. Your turbo is water and oil cooled.

The only time I've ever used a Turbo Timer was when I had the 50trim on my GSX.. It was only Oil Cooled.

Just because it's water cooled doesn't necessarily mean that it won't get hot enough to crap up the oil lines once both fluids stop flowing and residual heat takes over. How hot it gets exactly, I don't know.

Nice place. A lot of my friends who have EVOs and Stis put it in that location with just double sided sticky tape. I have the Apexi unit and its nice. Now Mox brings up a good piont when it comes to needing a TT on a wet bearing turbo. I would still let it run 10 to 20 seconds on a here to there daily driving run. On a hard run, up to two minutes. This is on wet bearing turbos. Dry bearing turbo I run them double the time of wet bearing.

exactly..

And most of the time before you stop you take a slow stroll through a parking lot or residential neighborhood. Thats more than enough to get the temps down. Sit park. Pull E-Brake. Turn Down Radio. Sit for 10 seconds. Turn car off.

If that's the case, then I'd love a turbo timer for mine. Second half of my morning commute:

-Blast down the highway
-Take exit ramp a bit "hastily" because I'm late
-Dodge through Cape Cod tourist retards for approximately 1/4 mile (6-7 months out of the year)
-Pull into parking lot
-Shut car off and forget to lock it because I'm literally running toward the door

:)
