Amp Recommendations

Post by dancingfroggy » Sun Jun 12, 2005 5:26 pm

Well I'm picking up 2 12" subs off Vernon and I need an amp. I don't need anything crazy powerful since I'm not planning on competing I just miss the thump thump in my car. What amp would you recommend?

Cheap and powerful: JBL 600.1
High Quality (and price): JL e1400D

One thing to look for, class D amp rated using RMS. Ignore the peak output performance as it's nothing more than smoke and mirrors. Stay away from Audiobahn, too many horror stories to list. The JBL is a monster and will help pound the living daylights out of you for cheaper than the rockford. Not to mention, the JBL price for price will have more power than the equiv rockford amp. If you need sound quality, go with the JL, but it's pricey.

I had a couple P212S4 and I'm currently running a P312D4. The two P2s had more pound to them and can really hit harder than you think. However, I'm getting ready to replace my P3 with two JL 8W7s in a custom box.

Oh I amost forgot... PORTED box by all means with those things. When the box is tuned properly (37Hz), it will pound like you wouldn't believe.

A really good test track to help tune SQ to is The Eagles - Hotel California (Live 2002). Pick up the CD rather than finding it in MP3, the difference is staggering even when you compare it to 320bit.
