muffler void the warrenty

Post by tnt_viper » Sun Jun 12, 2005 5:56 pm

I realy want a R/T muffler but dont have much cash. A guy on another forum got his muffler for his MR2 the same way as the R/T, by adding a pipe to the muffler...exactly like the r/t. He got it done at a muffler shop. I would like to know if that voids the warrenty? I have the powertrain warenty.

If they could tie the problem that you have to the muffler mod causing it.....then yes...that would be a problem.....otherwise, you should be fine......

Warranty works like this.... if you do something to your car and it has a direct impact on the thing that fails it will void it.

For instance... if you put new speakers in your car using your stock HU, then a week later your HU went out... then the warranty on the HU would be void since the speakers had a direct impact on the HU going out, or you modifed the stereo system but putting in different speakers.

Same goes for powertrain, put Nitrous in your car, then a couple weeks later you ran and broke some axles, flew apart your clutch, or shot the diff pin through the transmission... then your powertrain would be voided since the nitrous probably caused those parts to fail where in normal conditions where nitrous would not have been used they would have lasted the lifetime of the vehicle.

But in your case, just adding another pipe to the muffer... depending on how much of a dick the dealer wants to be, They won't void your warranty over little things.

Just remember, they can't void your entire warranty, only parts at which were directly affected by parts you modified or installed.

I think I explained that pretty well.

Yeah, Gary Howell explained this on the last episode of 'Tricked Out' on DIY. I didn't know that was the way it worked.

That was a good episode by the way.

um theres an adapter for non-magnum, that connects up to the R/T muffler.

i can locate the pn# if you want, it will allow the R/T muffler to bolt up to a non-R/T / non-ACR 2g neon.

I don't think he wants the actually R/T muffler since he doesn't have the cash for it. Instead just trying to replicate the looks of the R/T.

exactly :thumbright: I'm low on cash + I cant find it anywhere, only the dealer has it, and they are selling it for way too much. I just want the sweet look of the 2 chromed pipes in the back + I dont believe people that tell me theyre car goes faster with the R/T muffler.
