Sweet deal
I'd be sure to check the head over good before doing much work. Warpage, cam journals, ect...
You'll need to get an EGR blockoff plate to run the head on your car.

it's actually in good condition. i guess the only reason that it came off the car was cause they needed a look inside.

Looking good sofar, keep us updated.
Just a side note, a half-round metal rasp does a good job keeping the port openings round and not all lop-sided; although your's look nice and round

Do you have access to a flow bench?
The best way to port a head is to set it up on a flow bench so that all the ports flow the same, regardless of size.

no, i don't have access to a flow bench. i wish i did. oh, and i made a mathmatical mistake. the new size is 1.438" not 1.313". my bad.
got the second one done. this is for sure a task. i know the mating surface looks a little rough as do the ports. but it's all gonna get cleaned up in the end
as i was doing this one i got to thinking.
should i go with new stock 2gn valves and retainers or go with the INDY valves from modern and use the retainers that are in
THIS head?

ok, so i finished the porting of the exhaust ports. still need to do the polishing. i also borrowed a half assed valve spring compressor from my boss. and got
SOME of the springs out. i've done some thinking. and i'm gonna just order the top end performance rebuild kit from modern and get some new valves and valve guides and some other seals and such from the dealership.

When I had time to do head work I found a dremel with the long snake attachment:
http://www.dremel.com/DremelCMS/Pop-ups ... 6226&tab=1
Works great for tight corners and its easier to control than a big bulky tool like you posted above.
As far as a flow bench is concerned, why not make one?
All you really need is something to seal the comustion chamber and flow air through the ports and have a meter of some type to measure CFM...

the tool i got posted above isn't actually all that bulky though. it's only about 5" long and depending on how far out i put the bur 3-4" the other way. but yeah. i gotta find a dyno so i can do a before and after. we'll see how much the NGC can actually control. i should be done by christmas. that way i'm only spending spare money not car payments and such.

ok. well i got all the valve guides out. next on the list is the rest of the stuff from napa. i need a new one of those barbs for the coolant, and i'm ordering a new timing belt from napa. it's supposed to be higher quality and it has a blue backing on it.
then there's the stuff from modern. i'm gonna be picking up a crane 12, crane springs, a head gasket set, and indy valves sense i already have the proper valve keepers.

if you are wanting to stay in the stock rpm range a comp 400 would be better.

i'm not too worried about the rpm range. 1500 isn't that bad in my eyes. and that's only if i can't work it down a little with an adjustable cam gear

Hope you plan on making a custom header for that head, or else your not going to see much gains due to reversion.

Since the head is toast, you should cut it up. Run a band saw or hack saw right down the middle of cylinder. That way you'll learn were all the water passages are for when you port your next head.
