Along with the diff, tranny, driveshaft, manifolds, turbo....

This was a 7 hour trip each way and 3 hours getting it IN the car.... got stopped at a sobriety checkpoint about 1/4 mile away from the shop at 1 am and the cop asked me if I was stealing engines. I was thinking, 'yes officer, I drove 7 hours to come steal an engine... in a NEON'.......

(I still want the LS1)

It's going in my friend's drift Miata. But no one really knows that yet, lol. At least not in the Miata/clubroadster community.

It's N/A right now with ITB's and AEM EMS.

My friend actually figured out a way of getting it out by himself! We couldn't lift it in with an engine hoist b/c the one leg of it hit the wheel. When we got back, he just jacked the car up and took the wheel off, tada, easy way to get the engine out with the hoist--with one person!

Eh, it's going in a really light car and will prolly get the crap spun out of it. And don't forget it's turbo, so it's a lil bit better lol. I didn't really mention that it was ported and rebuilt as well.

I just thought you guys would get a kick out of fitting it in the backseat

rotary engines FTW. All about the smooth power delivery. I want to see one in a 1gn coupe.

Dude I got some friends from another Fraternity house and those guys have 7-8 Rotary Mazdas and they all love em.. I got a chance to ride in some of them and let me tell ya those thigns can move... who cares about torque when you can spin from idle to redline in a fraction of a second..

The 1st gen was around 200HP N/A there are a couple second gens that are in the 300hp.. there is a brown one that puts down 383 at the rear wheels and also my firends one that will be pushing close to 500 so go figure those little greman engines can actualy move.. epsecialy when combined wtih small light bodies...

I will take one of those turbo ones any day...

On the way to autox the other day we were going in the Brown one that has 400hp and that thing shot from 60-130 in like 4seconds... it was insane... and the response of the turbo is pretty unbelievable...

Cheapest engines to make power out of... no valves no chains and other bs... just port and polish them and do a turbo and whollla you got yourself a monster...

I test drove one being sold for 3K and I really liked it. It felt torqy always pealing out in the test drive. hehe. anyhow I truned down the offer since i heard the majore con to the rotary engine is that the rotar gasket leaks and transfers coolant into the oil..

seems it has something to do with the coolant vains running close to the rotor and the gasket being very thin.

is that true.

HELL YEAH!!! Gives me hope! I'm shipping my SRT to Germany later this year and I'm offsetting the costs of the shipment by loading it full of parts. So far I've got an SRT motor, tranny, 2 rear bumpers, a front bumper 3 exhaust rear sections, 2 pairs of kaminari skirts and a hood that have to go in it. I think with enough tetris work it can be done. I MIGHT be able to get away with not putting the SRT motor in it and then I'll definitely have enough room. Either way this thread gives me tremendous hope that it can actually happen! And the 7hr drive made me giggle because I gotta put all that stuff in and drive from Cincinnati to D.C. then to Irvington NJ.

Yeah, I don't know about fitting the SRT motor in there. The rotary is small, but to fit it into the door opening, the manifolds HAD to come off. The thing I hate most about the Neon is the lack of a decent OPENING to get stuff into the car. It's roomy inside the backseat and trunk, but the openings aren't really big enough to fit anything of significant size. Aka a chair, a dresser drawer, or a normal engine lol. :(

The tranny will fit no prob. FWD are little (short) :) I hope the bumpers are bendable...? I know the SRT stuff seems to be made out of a MUCH more flexible material than my RT front/rear bumper was. Dunno where you will put the hood, I don't know if it will fit in the trunk opening. Maybe strap it to the stock hood and in between put lots of foam?? LOL

I'd say, put lots of flattened cardboard boxes and plastic tarps down so you don't get stuff dirty, that's what I did.

Yeah, that makes me REALLY miss my Shadow. Having the hatch AND fold-down seats was awesome. I could fit just about anything in that car - bikes, tables, drum sets, whatever.

The most I've gotten into the Neon is a 6' (I think) folding table. It just barely fit width-wise and I had to move the front seats up a bit, but it fit with the trunk closed.

What I had in my car for Carlisle last year...

- 6 bowling balls (1 3-ball bag, 1 2-ball bag and an extra ball)
- 4 folding chairs
- a big cooler
- my detail kit (in a 14"x10"x13" ish container)
- helmet, fire jacket
- full size spare tire (plus the donut in the well)
- travel bags for 2 people
- a passenger
- 50 ft extention cord
- electric buffer
- all the normal stuff I carry, spare wipers, torque wrench, rags, tire plugging kit

I'm sure there are some other things I'm forgetting, but thats the major stuff.

I did fit some big things into my shadow too.

man i lost track of the BIG crap i put in my Duster (Sundance)... i do remember putting 3 24" tv's in there once for a friend... that was probably the biggest pain in the ass ever....

as for this... that's bad ass. i think there's ups and downs to the rotary just like there's ups and downs with our 2.0. but then again you tell me ONE vehicle that doesn't have just ONE issue
