Project Log 3.5 V-6 Neon

Post by blue demon02 » Fri Nov 16, 2007 7:05 am

Ok, so this probely should be in the 1st gen forum but I like 2gn better

Unfortonity I plan to use a 1st gen for this project due to the engine mounitng points and the larger engine bay.

Here is the plan for the car

I have my eye on a 98 ACR. It needs somethings but should be a good starting point.

Going in it will be as follows:

Suspension:
ST swaybars, Poly bushings, Konies or K-sports, and strut braces

Interior:
Probely gutted with some lightweight bucket seats and a cage.

Exterior:
Allways been a fan of the R33 or 34 kits on a 1ST Gen

Engine:
Hereit is the heart of the project:
3.5 96 mm bore 81 mm stroke OHC, 24 valve, deep skirt, cross bolted mains, 250HP at the crank stock. Crank is forged as well a rods andI think pistons. Compression is around 10:1. I got to do some more reaserch but I thinnk if I use the heads off a 3.8 it will lower the compression and thn I could turbo the thing. or can you say ITB.

Transe:
Will more then likely be a 5spd from a duster Will probely re-work the internals to get the gearing higher. And will see if can get an LSD in there.

Probloms with project:
Motor mounts might have to be custom made.
Axles. Again probely custom.
How to control the motor. (Either will use the stock 3.5 ecu or go megasquirt.

This will be a long project in the making as I don't get back in the states untell January of 09. So got plenty of time to do the homework and save money for the project. :laughing3:

...if you go for an ITB setup, I say make 'em staggered and up through the hood a'la old CanAm cars.

You'd be my hero and the thing would look all kinds of MadMax going down the track!

Just stick to fart cans, AEM stickers, and park benches bolted to your trunk lid for a little while while you learn the ropes, OK?

Go to the post I had in the N/A forum where the guy posted the supercharged 3.0

See how on that manifold the runners are round? Well the input pipe on a GSX throttle body are round too. So it would be an easy bolt on to do ITB's.

IIRC someone put P body knuckles in a Neon so it may be just an issue of getting the P body axles the correct length. Don't know how different the track widths are between P and PL. P body brakes should be a massive improvement. I know they were on an L body.

Jesus.

Arent't 3.3 and 3.8 motors OHV motors?

This is awesome, but since youre going this far...

If I remember correctly, my moms 3.5 Intrepid's motor was mounted so it looked like it was a RWD vehicle. I think this needs to be a RWD car.

^^^^ yep, just like the Toranado's or a backwards VW Bug engine. but how much weight would have to be added to the rear to get traction? Either that or some serious 4 link experimenting

Eh, a 9" rear, 4.11's, 275/50/15's and slapper bars will get you some traction.
