freedom wireless/verizon aka phone sales

I have always like sales, so i've been looking into many jobs. One of them is in cell phones. So i got an interview on tuesday with freedom wireless.

on the job posting on monster this is what they offer

I know some people on this site do cell phone sales. What kind of rate do you start out per hour? Also what are some things that might help me out in my interview. Also what kind of commision do you guys see when you actually sell a plan/phone/accessories? I have never known anyone personally in cell phone sales, so i'm trying to get a general ball park idea for when i go into my interview. I don't wanna look like a guy who knows nothing about the job.

I work directly for VZW...not sure how it works for an agent....my base pay is $12 something an hour. I make commission on what i sell...so if i sell a higher rate plan i make more. I make nothing on phones. I make money on plans, renewals (people out of contract), accessories and data sales (PDA, text, Vcast etc)
A crappy commission check is $1250 + 80 hours of base pay

Benefits.
6% match on my 401K (i put 11% each pay check into it plus the 6% that is being matched)
12 personal paid days a year
2 weeks paid vacation
discount on phones, acc, and plans. i think i pay $45 for 1400 mins for 2 phones, both with unl text and another $10 for VZ Nav (GPS on the phone)
$8000 a year for school/books
$4000 if you r part time
Benefits are A+++++, cant get any better
Contests-every once in awhile, i just won a new VZW Juke phone

Do you have any sales experience? Thats helps a lot. Talk about how you are customer centered.
My interview was explaining differnt situations how i helped the customer and upsold them on something. Almost every question was....
Tell me about a time that...
They are basically looking for your leadership skills, that you can sell your ass off, and that you wont crack if a customer is yelling at you.

Its not an easy job. Sales is a tough gig. I enjoy it tho. I'm sure you will do great. Freedom Wireless is a little harder tho bc u have to know the plans of every carrier (i believe they sell them all)

well i guess at the location i would be working at sells verizon only....

if i get anywhere near what you get as an verizon employee i will be STOKED!

Yes i do have sales experience, but kind of in a different form. Restuarant and retail. But have done years of customer service, and have worked with all kinds of different customers and situations. So i think i should be able to answer those ?'s appropiately.

I am just keeping my fingers crossed....this is kinda something i wanted to get into, and actually got an interview on the first cell phone gig i applied for.

i'm gonna be nervous, but hopefully i'll do ok. I never really ever had a SERIOUS interview for a real job before. But i'm usually oddly comftorable in all situations.

well i'm leaving my job today a half an hour early to make sure i am plenty early goin over to my interview. lol i'm all dressed up and actually not even that nervous yet.

This sounds pretty good. I think I might have to check into a verizon in my area.

I worked at a jiffy lube for 4.5 years. All the selling I did was above and beyond the standard service.

Sweet man! Hopefully things went well with the interview, good luck! That sounds like a sweet deal, especially in sales. Much better than hiding in a cubicle and going to meetings all day.

man i nailed the interview....i felt totally comftorable, had her laughing, i had good answers to all of her ?'s, ect ect...we sat there for over an hour just babbling on....she told me she'd be in contact after black friday...i have my fingers crossed!

Another update**

Currently in the top 8 of the company of 65 stores in my second month....

I "won" in sales and points in my first month, and i'm crushing my store this month. Gettin close to double as the number 2 guy in my store.
