There's really no rag out there that covers American cars the way I'd like em' to be covered and it's NOT that there's not a lot of Tuner style cars being made here, it's just that the Japan and Euro cars have been top dog for so long that no one things of America when they think "Tuner". A Neon, Cobalt or Focus can be tweaked just as much and made to run just as well as anything from Japan or Europe. Even Sport Compact Car(which is a sister mag with Super Street and Euro Tuner and a lot of other mags) doesn't cover American cars all that well.
It is the editorial equivalent of down syndrome.
I honestly couldn't care less about what country the cars they cover come from. I care about the content. I couldn't care less about how mad tight this ugly body kit is or how um... what another one of those "Hip" words ghetto people use... um.. I dunno.. But You get what I mean. I want PERFORMANCE. Not Boobs, Not Body Kits, Not Shiny Chrome Rims, Not 150hp Rice Rockets. I want PERFORMANCE.
Again Who cares where the cars come from. If they PERFORM thats all that matters.
And Let me say Again. A MAG about Cavaliers, Neons, Foci, Sunfires, Cobalts, Etc would not sale. Sign me up for another Craptasic issue of Chevy J-body Monthly PLEASE!
Sport Compact Car's Car of the Year in 2003 was the Dodge Neon SRT-4. Yea.. they aren't coving American Cars the right way..

SCC features Ford Focus, Cavaliers & Cobalts, and Neons... unfortunately Chrysler no longer HAS a sport compact anything, so don't expect them to be in there anymore.
SCC > all other tuner mags.
SCC > all other tuner mags.

SCC has great writing, the editors are good, and the cars are a great mix - yes, they leg hump just about anything honda, and they use all the stupid japanese names for the american cars, which drives me nuts, but either way, it is by far the best magazine for tuners in the sport compact 'world'. I also read modified mad, but they are not as good as SCC.

Before SCC had its changing of the guard, there used to be a bunch of hard-ons for Subaru and Euro makes. But yes, since the new management, it's kinda Honda happy, but still they cover most everything else.kc2002acr wrote:SCC has great writing, the editors are good, and the cars are a great mix - yes, they leg hump just about anything honda, and they use all the stupid japanese names for the american cars, which drives me nuts, but either way, it is by far the best magazine for tuners in the sport compact 'world'. really tho, 1st gen troll is right, but to be more specific, I get loads more information, snazzy pictures, and lots of other fun stuff vis forums. Seems to me the amateurs and enthusiasts have the advantage over the mags nowadays. I'll save my coin and not only enjoy but participate in the better arena.

Its just a Shame that James Tate is no longer with SCC or Josh Jacquot, Dave Coleman, Scott Oldham, etc
Coleman still has a small part in the Mag, but nothing like he used to have.
and it's Jay Chen.. my bad.

Yeah, but he also gets to drive the big guns too. I'd drive a Camry all day to flog a C6 or random Porsche Turbo on a track for a day.MoxHair wrote:SCC is still a great mag, but I wish the old guard was still around.
MotorTrend a promotion? Sure if you like reviewing cars like the New Camry or Prius. Pfft. lol

And maybe instead of a monthly mag, why not a 2gn.org annual mag/book? all the information of the year compiled in 1 place.

Because paying for a calendar that I can hang on my wall is one thing.
Paying to re-read what I've read and seen online over the past year here, that's another. And a "no thanks". This site is a magazine alternative, as it should be. And as that, it does quite nicely. Between the search feature, and the fast turnaround on assistance replies, this site goes above and beyond any magazine you can buy.

well yes, but it would come in handy if there was something you missed and you didn't have a net connection.
a few how to's. a few faq's. features of other cars (say, all the car of the month's) etc.
the net is great and everything, but there's something special about being able to hold it in your hands and flip the pages. you can take it outside when you're working on the car instead of walking back and fourth or printing off a bunch of pages.
it would probably fill a few volumes depending on how many pages each would have.

If you can't get access to the net nowadays, you have no business tuning a modern vehicle for performance
Anyways you can print stuff out, I do it all the time.
What you're describing in terms of volumes is a lot of work to edit and do layouts for. Most laypersons don't realize that even the simplest publications take lots of work each issue. That translates to cost, and there aren't enough people to pay for copies to support the time and work required.

cafe shop or whatever sells the 2gn shirts has a program for books.
i don't know about that. besides, some computers just don't seem to like this page. i know my home computer has fits on this page and this page alone for some reason but the work computer just loves it.
didn't say it would be easy, but it could be useful. and it would be more practical than a monthly. people'd have a year to put it together.

that's a web browser thing, not the computer. either something in the web browser or operatig system has corrupted over time, or you're using a browser brand or version that has difficulties.
I still think I wouldn't spend my money on it, but I'm curious to see how others feel about it. Either way, I seriously doubt Jason or anyone else wants to spend countless hours searching and collecting data to put in a book. Usually we're bitching because n00bs never search for themselves.
But who knows.

Sure. If there's nothing to read in there, you stare at the wallpaper. Either that or Mox has something majorly wrong with his bowels that prevents him from reading.thirteentwo wrote:Is that even possible?MoxHair wrote: I don't read in the bathroom
As far as "tuner" info goes, the intarweb is much more useful in procuring useful, and often times relevant, information to what you want to know. Magazines don't have a search function. I subscribe to Car and Driver, and, umm... that's it. Been a loyal C&D reader for about a decade now, ever since I started High School. It's funny, witty, and the stories and interviews are great. Similar to Motor Trend, but I tried reading Motor Trend, Autoweek, and Automobile, and I just didn't like them as much. C&D resident Larry Webster seems to have a particular Hard-On for C6 Vettes. I love Vettes too. Difference between him and I? He gets to drive the bejeezus out of one, in the name of journalism. I look at a poster on my wall. But like Sport Compact Car humps Honda's now, the residents of C&D are generally biased towards Hondas and BMW's. Although the New Chevy Malibu and Cadillac CTS did make it to the 10best this year.
American Tuner mags will not sell unless it has Chevy Big Block or Hot Rod or something of that ilk on the cover. But Sport Compact Car sounds interesting, maybe I should pick up a copy, see if I like it. I used to read Super Street long time ago too.. for some reason that year my IQ dropped considerably
