Doing my motor mounts

I wanna do them myself, can anyone tell me what i need to do? like where to jack up the engine alittle to relieve the weight on the screws or what? if this is in the wrong section please move it mods. Thanks.

Make sure to put a piece of wood between the jack and the oil pan. Don't jack it up much, just enough to support the engine. If you jack it up too much you'll bind the motor mount bolt. Are you going with stock mounts or adding inserts? If you're replacing the stock mounts it might be a good time to add inserts too. I've done both upper and lower motor mounts and the upper is a piece of cake, the lower isn't bad either once you get the plastic shield off. There are three screws and two push button fasteners that hold it on. Remember to torque the mounting bolts to spec. That's about it, not really all that hard at all. Good luck.

I jacked it up at the oil pan with a phone book...

Getting the bolt off might need a break bar, they're on there good.

You can get a torque wrench from AutoZone for about $25 bucks, at least that what mine cost IIRC a few years ago. It's the click style so you won't have to read anything, just set it and when you hear the click you're at the right torque. On the '05's the bolt torque is 87 ft/lbs.

I personally never jack on the oil pan. If you look real closely at the front end of your lower motor mount, its bolted to a large chunk of Metal thats attached to your engine block. If your jack has a detachable cup then remove it and get a small block of wood at least 1/2 inch thick. Position the Jack On the chunk of metal, you will notice its right next to your lower motor mount. Now simply jack up just a tiny bit, All you want to do is have the jack support some, NOT ALL of the weight (Your main mount will do the rest).

Also, i have never used a torque wrench. the bolts are very strong and pretty big. I simply got them loose with a breaker bar and tightened them with it too. Just be sure to get yourself some thread lock or you can use a little bit of nail polish on the tip of the bolts.
