2002 R/T Tranny Problem... Help!

Post by bris » Mon Dec 03, 2007 4:23 pm

My car doesn't move when I shift into 3rd, it's as if I was in Neutral. It never grinded, seems to go in fine, clutch doesn't seem to be slipping so what could the problem be? Is this a common problem with the 2nd gen's?

Any help would be appreciated.

are you starting off in 3rd? or like driving along switch from 2nd to third and bam, no more movement, just rpms rev up...? need more info and what kind of car (rt, acr, se, sxt)/year/etc? Sounds like tranny went if the above is what's happening.

Driving, shifting from 2nd to 3rd and no movement, just revs....it's a 2002 Neon R/T.

Thanks!

either linkage is screwed, or the tranny is done and needs a rebuild.

can you shift it into 4th or 5th and drive with no problems? I would say remove the center console and check to make sure everything is hooked up and nothing is broke, then look under the battery tray for the same things on the two linkages on the top of the tranny... may be something simple as a bushing?? if all else fails, find a transmission shop with free inspections and go at that route to diagnose the problem.
