saw my neons life flash before my eyes

Post by sirvaliant_98 » Sat Jun 18, 2005 3:53 pm

well yesterday was a scary few moments. I was heading home from putting gas in the car and getting mcdonalds for the kids and I. It was raining, not hard, but enought the road was wet. I was driving behind a daytona, going about 35 mph, the speed limit. i went a way i usely dont take because its a truck route and the road at the intersection, a 4-way stop is all torn up. I didnt feel like going the long way though and would just go really slow through the intersection. The road is slightly up hill then becomes a slight down hill, so there at the crest it can be hard to judge the speed of traffic and what not. Anyways I was behind the daytona almost to the crest when the daytona hits his brakes hard and swerves to the left into on coming traffic lane. I see this and for a moment panic and hit the brakes to hard myself, locking them up and sliding the tires. well somehow i managed to miss him, but then i see the reason he hit his brakes. I van, not paying attention and going to fast had locked its brakes up at the last moment almost hitting the guy in front of them. Well now i am heading straight for the back of this van, sliding, going about 30 mph. I let go of the brakes and quickly looked for a way to avoid an accident. I found one and in the form of a field. I steered the car between the van and a telephone pull and into a wheat field. Luckily the field was not really bumpy except the initial drop into the field and that wasnt bad cuz the dirt was soft and free of rocks. I slide about 20-30 ft into the field. I looked and made sure the kids were alright, which they were, thank god. Took a deep breath and survied my situation. The guy in the daytona stopped to help me out and the van just took off. After about 30 min we finally got the car unstuck and was able to find a spot to drive the car out of the field. Nothing broken luckily, just a bunch of weat and weeds in grille and under the car. It all happened so fast and i was surprised i reacted as quickly as i did to avoid the van. I guess what little track racing instruction i have had helped. anyways, sorry for the long post.

I did something simmilar one night, driving to Best Buy I locked the brakes up and almost slid into the curb going 25-30, it was down a hill and on a curve, but, like you, I just let off the brakes and the tires grabed and I was on my way, scary though.
What did your kids think of it all?
Justin- I have nothing but smart ass remarks to add.

good thing everything is fine. that could have been a bad one. glad everyones fine tho.

i have 2 scary moments. there's a turn i usually take, its a highway ramp type thing. i usually take it at 80 comfortably. but now with the ipp coilovers i said, lemme try a bit faster. so i went into it at 120 still planted on the gas and the first half of the turn went great, but my back end is fully gutted, and the co's are very stiff, so the back end rotated (with my foot still planted on the gas, no lift off throttle oversteer necesarry  ) i say to myself, no problem .i do it on purpose at 80mph, cant be much different at 120. but my car was losing power and i was trying to straight it out, i ended up having to downshifting to power out of it.

next one im doing something similar but its a skinnier highway ramp, that has two concrete barriers on both sides 3 feet from the car. at 110mph, as i passed one turn (series of 5 turns) water hit my windshield and i just crossed into a rain cloud. still at above 100,in the rain, in the turn i had to find a way of slowing down without oversteering.

I had no chance in my recent accident. My wife and 2 kids were just coming back from the hospital due to my wife's migraine headache. There was a car in front of me and we were waiting for a green light at an intersection. As light goes green I clear my left and right as usuall, we start across, guy in front of me speeds up. Just then my left peripheal vision catches a glimpse of something tan. Before I can realize whats about to happen I hear and feel my front end crumple. Then I notice a guy looking at me as his honda crv is on 2 wheels, then flips on his top sliding across the intersection.

The good news is were all ok. This idiot was trying to beat his redlight at my expense. Now it's going to be at his expense, and the world is less one more ACR. I am pissed. I've been approved for a black SRT-4 and I spent all day yesterday removing all my aftermarket parts. Monday I am getting police reports, appraisal on my car, and going to legal. :x :x :x

Check my www for pics.

Heidelberg is where it happened. Hopefully I'll still be in country, and not on another tour of the sandbox.
