using stock knob on mopar sts

using stock knob on mopar sts
Like the title says, is there a way to use the stock shift knob/boot on my mopar sts? I like the whole srt4 ball/shift boot, but I miss the feel of the rt/acr shift knob.
I looked at the stock shaft and it appears to be shaped different and longer than the mopar sts (duh) so I couldnt just swap shafts... I am not sure about drilling into the shaft and trying to put some cotter pins in so I could put that spring on and what not - so I guess my question is, has anyone done it, and if so, whats it look like, or anyone have any suggestions???

the rod is skinnier on the SRT.
When I was waiting for my SRT Knob to come into the dealership when I still owned my R/T I put the R/T knob on the shaft. it was VERY loose and could spin around like a top. It would take more than just a screw to get it to work.
The SRT Knob is a "Click" on type knob, while your R/T ACR knob uses a spring. Push down and turn type.

Actually, all rods are the same diameter.
I think there is just a bunch of extra clearance in the non-SRT knob because it doesn't really matter.

I can put a stock knob on mine without any problems... just push down an turn like normal. Then again I have the ORIGINAL Mopar STS that was before the SRT STS which could accept the stock knob
You might check with Maddog to see if he could fab it to work for you.

My original SRT Mopar Shifter in my R/T definitely had a skinnier rod. The Stock R/T knob could spin and be moved side to side on it.

Interesting, I measured my non-SRT shifter and it was the same as my SRT shifter, within a few thousandths.

Seriously, the Mopar rod may give the illusion that it's a smaller diameter because the 2nd gen rod has an "O" ring at the top. Remove the "O" ring, and you will feel the same amount of looseness.
I can mod a stock 2nd gen rod to the same specs as the Mopar, if you want to go that route, or, we can just do a whole new STS with 2x the throw redux as the Mopar
