Staticy radio
Staticy radio
Ever since my accident in the summer my radio will go staticy out of the blue and if I try and search for other stations no will be found but the cd/mp3 player still works fine and then it will just start working again. Can this be a ground issue or part of my deck screwing up? I'd hate to replace the deck and find out that isn't the issue.

It is possible the antenna wire got crimped/broke in the accident?

I'll check again. The accident was quite mild, just pushed in the bumper and bent the hood a bit on the drivers side.
Actually, I just thought of a way to trouble shoot it. I have Sirius radio and it connects to my deck with a cable that goes into the back of my deck (antenna spot) and then the cars antenna plugs into it. If I was to disconnect the cars antenna and it still goes staticy then it's probably my deck at fault, correct? BTW, it was doing this before the sat radio install, but with that hardwire kit the car antenaa is no longer needed, correct?

Does the static follow the revs in the car? So if you were to rev the car a little the static would either get louder or more pronouced?

when i had all my stock speaker shit in my radio sounded fine.
when i put my aftermarket deck and speakers in i could def tell a difference between cd's and the radio...it didnt seem as clear anymore, and the connection is fine. so it could just be your deck has a crappy radio part on it.

I've had the deck for over 2 years, it's just started doing this (at least I first noticed it) after my accident. Plus, it's REALLY fuzzy, so fuzzy that static is all you really hear....

that is a good way to check if it is the headunit and not the antenna, but there is always the offchance that it is actually the fm modulator you are using for your sirius. to be 100% sure you should try it like you said, then try it again without the fm transmitter connected and a direct antenna to hu connection.Crashin wrote:I'll check again. I unplugged the car antenna and it still does it. I doubt it's the Sirius unit as I had the problem before I got sat radio. I figured if it was a bad ground to the antenna then getting sat radio would get rid of the problem. lol Guess not....

Could it be because of my UDP? It seems to mainly go staticy when I'm slowing down. Today coming home for lunch I had the heater going and the rear defrost and when I got to around 1K rpm it got staticy again. Weird that it hasn't done it in previous years though, just a thought? Possibility?

I think it's just a ground strap. Do under hood lights on Neons have one wire or two going to them? Mine doesn't have that option so I don't know for sure if they put the ground straps on for hood lights or just to keep staic electricity from building up. My guess is that your tuner is going bad. You could try a cheap after market antenna, just attach it to your radio and leave it in the car and see if the problem still happens. But I wouldn't think light damge to the drivers side would damage the antenna wire on the passenger side.Crashin wrote:What is the wire on the passenger side hood hinge for?

I'm hoping it is just the tuner on the deck, can get pretty good ones fairly cheap nowadays.

I picked up a Pioneer deh-p5000ub and put it in and hooked the Sirius up directly and not with the fm direct connect kit and no static what so ever and the local radio stations are nice and clear with no static either, so I'm pretty certain the fm tuner in my Rockford deck was the culprit, too bad though cause the cd quality was excellent.
