Graphite SRT's project log Update 3/21/08-SRT SWAP

Post by Graphite SRT » Tue Dec 11, 2007 11:34 am

This was supposed to be in the picture post forum...... Dont know how i posted it in here :tardbang:

o well its my project log now

Anyway..

What i plan to do is turn it into a SRT-4 clone but keep the color the same as this color was not offered for the SRT

The way i got it.

Image

Im not a fan of aftermarket tails on any car especialy my first gen, they all just look ugly but the ones i found for this car i really like so i took a chance at buying them and i think it looks great especialy with my color car.

They are tinted clk tails

I plan to add a seperate led red turn signal to the curved side and add rear fogs to the upper un used clear part

i also added black eylids

interior is now half black still waiting on a main dash frame and carpet to get here then it will be all black other than the seats..

o and almost forgot.....I got bored and removed the emblems...

The engine from my 95 that is going in it.

Its an srt internaled 01 PT 2.4 with srt turbo at the moment

All i need to do is make an external trigger wheel to mimic the NGC crank signal since this engine has the older crank trigger

I was going to get a srt T-850 trans but they are a bit pricey compared to a T-350 and now that i relized 2000 neons still had the cable clutch i can still use the bellhousing i have on the trans already.

^^That is one nice looking engine bay. Looks like the car came that way. Good luck with the swap of a swap. :D

Are you going to use the SRT charge piping now that you have a 2g.How about the SRT intake manifold? Looks like you have a cool project ahead of you.

Im actually going with a custom AMM short runner manifold when the money permits. I still have the first gen DOHC head so i have to use that bolt pattern. I also plan to have the Throttle body setup like the 2nd gen non-turbo setup ( seprate from the mani.)

I am just going to buy some 2.5 stainless pipe and make my own piping.

UPDATE 1/2/08

Post by Graphite SRT » Wed Jan 02, 2008 10:53 am

Update:

Small but cool update

I added red leds to the curved section of the clk tails

Project was a bit of a PITA

At the moment they are running as just park lights but i would like to have them blink with the turn signals. i have not yet found a way to do this as i have no way to tell the leds to blink with the signal and then remain on when the signal is off.

The viewing angle is more off to the side then striaght back but so are the tails original reflectors

Here are some pics with the parking lights on (night pics soon):

I say keep the sleeper look. Swap that motor in there and keep it the way it is. I love the graphite color in the non SRT's. It will look great if you completely make it look like a SRT-4 though.

Great job on the tail lamps with the LED's. Never have seen anyone do that to the CLK style.

I so go with colormatched eyelids, the black ones look good, but I think some graphite colored ones would flow better. Just my 2 cents.

I already had a sleeper when i had my 95 so i want to make this one look like an SRT

Superflux led tail

Post by Graphite SRT » Mon Jan 14, 2008 10:42 pm

I took a form members advice and bought some superflux LEDs to make my own third brake light

Glues a little messy but i looks great when the lens is on.

I used 20 4-chip LEDs, i also extended the lighting out to the sides a bit more because i did not like how the factory lighting did not light the whole lens

I bought the LEDs from oznium.com but i will not again as i realized you can get the same exact ones on ebay for ALOT less just may take a little longer to get here.

I have white superflux on the way for my license plate light and amber ones for the front side markers

Pics (night pic was almost impossible because of brightness)

Added a Donnelly auto dim/compass/map light rear view mirror today that i got from the j-yard for 20 bucks.

It was hard to find a wiring diagram for it but i happened to stumble across in on a website and everything seems to work fine

UPDATE 2/1/08- LED DOME

Post by Graphite SRT » Fri Feb 01, 2008 10:00 am

Today i installed my 18 5-chip led white dome light.
thats a total of 90 LEDs !!!

It is now brighter then day at night when i turn this thing on.

I will add pics tonight as long as its not raining to show what im talking about

Also heres a quick shot of what I've been working on to go in with the 2.4L Turbo engine

To add to that, the engine is now a 2004 SRT engine with 6K on it.

I traded my older 2.4L with srt internals for it.

The reason i traded it was becasue making an external trigger to mimic the NGC trigger wheel was a PITA and wasn't worth the trouble

Ok, just to let everyone know i have all the Swap parts now other than the motor mounts which will be here tomorrow

I also powdercoated my v/c and it came out ok but not to my liking so i will buy another and do it again when i feel like it

This swap will take place Friday 3/21/08 and over the weekend to work out problems that may come up.

It consists of:

2004 SRT Engine with 6000 miles
( two broken ears, worked out with alternative mounting brakets)

1st gen 3.55 trans w/ PG and with cable bell housing

2000 neon cable clutch brake assembly

srt mod clutch

srt engine bay wiring

SXT A/C

I may adapt SXT Power steering if i decide to keep it.

JMB coldside w/ Fake greedy.....lol

Stock turbo setup for now.....

Stock pod triple gauge setup.

and last but not least MEGASQUIRT!!!, after i get it running without it...

And more but i don't feel like typing anymore, pics wil be taken thought it

ok....today was a long day

The engine has been removed

I got the intercooler and the SRT engine bay wiring installed

i also got the 2000 cable clutch pedals installed
This was a PITA as where the cable wanted to pass through was where the hood release cable was so i had to move that down then enlarge the hole for the cable.

I also got the 2.0 alternator mounted up and started with the power steering put realized it was more trouble than its worth so i am just going to go without PS until i get the SRT stuff

I will be installing the SRT engine tomorrow if the weather permits

Here are some random Pics

havent updated in a little becasue of a major oil leak from the oil pan and rear main seal.

The swap was in and running....

In the mean time i have been getting my Megasquirt wired up and i am using the old sxt firewall connectors next to the single SRT connector as their is three spots, now i can just unplug most of my MS harness for when it comes time for inspection.

My MS will control both fuel and spark as well as boost control and idle control.

will post pics soon when shes up and running again
