Not a Icy as BigBird but still... for SoCal?

Post by Arro » Wed Dec 12, 2007 10:48 am

I spent 15 minutes this morning scraping off the thin but solid layer of ice on the windshield so I could see to drive.

Image

Doesn't look like it, but that window is very iced over.

The roof had a nice frosty layer on it...

And the hood and headlights did as well:

The grass was like a bunch of little green crystals... If it *had* actually rained here, I think it would have looked similar to BigBird's pics, actually... it was that cold last night! But as most of you know, southern California isn't known for lots of rain, and this is the desert area as well.

I was nice to my engine and let it warm up for a good 20 minutes before driving the car.

Speaking of which, I need to ask a question about the defroster, but I'll post that in a different section.
Drive it like you stole it, and work on it like you married it.

Overkill IMHO.

That ice is weaksauce compared to bigbirds.

That is unusual for Southern Cali though. Did it end up warming up by mid day?

My car, covered in 1/2" of ice after 4 hours of ice storm

Trees in my apartment complex day after ice storm, and yeah that is 2-3" snow underneath the ice which is close to an inch thick.

This is what happens to trees when 1/2"+ of ice forms on their branches... lots of damage can be done to cars and power lines

Sorry for the treadjack! ;)

Nah threadjack is fine... I kinda half-expected people to post ice pics.

Yeah if it had rained it would have been like that.

silverneontuner, those aren't shattered from the cold. They're shattered because plenty of people don't know how to drive after the first snow/ice fall so they just run into crap and damage their bumpers

Arro: instead of spending 15 minutes scrapping off the windshield, maybe you should try spraying water from your garden hose on it. Takes the ice right off. At least it has always worked for me.
